We had the good fortune of connecting with Devin Bailey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Devin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had worked in the insurance based physical therapy realm for over 6 years. I knew the ins/outs of how physical therapy treatment works when utilizing insurance. I had seen the shortcomings and failures of the system and watched both patients and myself get frustrated by the system. I myself had been through physical therapy as a patient and also had first hand experience of how the system was not designed to get people back to performance but merely back to baseline daily function. I decided that there had to be a better way to help people get back to both life and athletic performance following injury. I knew it was a big risk, but I was in a good position to take this risk to really help people get to the root cause of what was holding them back from performing at their peak level in their sport/activity of choice.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the proud owner of Imagine Performance Therapy, LLC. This is a performance based physical therapy clinic that focuses on keeping active individuals active! What sets me apart from the traditional physical therapy clinic is that my visits are 100% 1-on-1. 60 minutes with just me and the patient. We dive deep into history, lifestyle, and training to help understand the root cause of the individuals issue.
I am most proud of the client experience I provide. Communication with my patient’s does not stop when they leave my office. All of my clients have concierge access to me, meaning they can message me at anytime and get answers faster to issues that pop up along their plan of care. The healthcare system is confusing, with this open access line of communication, my goal is to help individuals navigate the right path to full athletic recovery.
Starting a business is 100% not easy. There are great days, great weeks and great months. But there is also a lot of unknown, anxiety and stress that comes along with going all in on a small business venture. I tackle overcoming the stress of the unknown, by getting out and meeting people. The more I visit other small businesses, the more I learn. I take away valuable knowledge from every person I encounter on how I can grow and improve my business.
A lesson I learned along the way is that you have to have thick skin. You are going to encounter a lot of doubters along the way while building a business. You are going to have people that don’t appreciate the product/service you are providing, and you have to realize that is ok. As a healthcare business owner, my goal is to be a resource. If I am not the right fit to address someone’s needs, I will do my best to navigate them to the appropriate person.
I want the world to know that you do not have to settle for mediocre care at an insurance based facility. As a consumer in the healthcare service industry, you have the right to choose who you want to be your sherpa on your road to recovery from injury. Insurance companies put up roadblocks and make it difficult for individuals to get back to their top performance. Myself and my company are here to show people that they deserve easier access and better treatment for their orthopedic needs.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Fort Worth has some amazing businesses that are 100% worth the trip. Anytime friends or family visit, we like to introduce them to our favorite little spots. Barbecue at The Railhead Smokehouse in Willow Park, Sushi at Little Lily, Breakfast tacos at Taqueria Melis and a fancy coffee at Lazy Daisy or Love Loca Coffee & Art. My husband and I love the outdoors, so we would definitely venture out to Samson Park for a little city “hike” or grab some bikes and hit the Trinity Trail. We also love to get our workouts in, for me it’s CrossFit at CrossFit Westwood, for my husband it’s Jiu Jitsu at Travis Lutter. This list could go on and on because there are so many more amazing businesses in the Fort Worth area!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, my husband. He was the one who point blank told me to quit my full time job with benefits to pursue my passion of building my own business and helping individuals excel in the sport of their choice. Secondly, PTBiz. PTBiz is an entrepreneur program for the gym based/performance physical therapist. It has been an amazing group to network and learn from. It’s very nice to have like minded people in my corner who understand the fun and frustration that goes along with starting a business.
