We had the good fortune of connecting with Detra Harrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Detra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was “I might as well!” I felt like I kept getting shut out on a corporate level, so I wanted to at least try and go for it!
What should our readers know about your business?
So I have a mobile spa and I am also a mobile make up artist. I provide all of the equipment (bed, lighting, machines, product etc.) and come to you. I got to where I am first and foremost with amazing support, but also being diligent with marketing, customer service, organization and hard work. It has not been easy but I have been blessed to be able to do something that I love, and make a living off of it. What I have learned is that there will always be challenges you just have to stay the course and work through them. We’ll that’s the main lesson that I’ve learned in being an entrepreneur, is stay the course, it gets better. I want the world to know that I truly do love doing what I do. I love meeting new people, and transporting them to a relaxing place for an hour, or transforming them for a special event. It truly brings me joy. For my brand, I want people to feel my heart when they meet me and receive a service from me, because it is my passion.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I love restaurants, so I probably would take them out to eat alot. I recently went to Mercury Chophouse in Arlington and the food and drinks were FANTASTIC! I love to do things like going to the movies (Studio Movie Grill) skating, going to the arcade, going bowling, going shopping, I would definitely take them to Grapevine Mills to shop. I like to people watch and I find interesting people anywhere I go!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely! I want to shout out my Aunt, who raised me, Clara Alderman. She was one of the first people that I told my business idea to, and she was behind me 100% Also, my husband, Reggie Harrell who is behind me all of the way and has been a huge supporter from the very beginning. Lastly my mentor, Ann Stewart. She has taught me so much and has given me so many gems. I would not be as knowledgeable as I am about anything without her assistance. I can call her up anytime and she always knows what to say!
