Meet Desiree Wilson: Licensed Esthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Desiree Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desiree, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Whewwww,so to start I just want to say work/life balance is so important and if you don’t have it you can lose your mind really quick and I’m speaking from experience!So what I’ve learned to do is absolutely nothing.I get a few days off per week and I dedicate that day to doing absolutely nothing if I can or at least as little as possible and that has helped me so much.A day to just sit,think,burn candles,pay online bills,and rest.But overall I try to stick to a routine of going to work and at the end of the day still finding a project to do at home or something self care related and that has been what I’ve stuck to.Work/life balance is not always busy but mine has definitely improved over time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been a licensed esthetician since 2019 and I started off doing only facials and waxing on a few clients per month.Fast forward to 2021 I’m offering facials,chemical peels,microneedling,waxing,laser hair removal and body contouring,etc.I am lead of the waxing and body contouring departments at Laser Bar in Bishop Arts Dallas.I service average of 20 or more clients weekly and most of those clients end up rebooking with me.Things definitely started off rough last year(2020) due to the pandemic.All spas/salons were shutdown for a period of time and I didn’t know if I’d ever be able to work on clients again or if people would trust coming into a spa for services.Some weeks were super slow business wise but since opening back up business has spiked and I’m extremely blessed that I have clients to work on daily.It does get scary risking your health to work everyday but I wouldn’t have it any other way.I’m most proud that I have helped women build confidence and I’m all for women empowerment.And I am most excited because we have moved to a new,bigger,better location only 5 minutes away from our previous location and our grand opening will be amazing and extravagant.I’m also super excited to be offering several new services this year.I am in the prime of my career and i only plan to grow from here!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So we would definitely hit up Meddlesome moth for brunch(I like to sleep in lol). The restaurant is located in the design district and another friend recommended it to me so I went there and now it’s one of my favorite places. Super low key and cute just how I like it. Next we would hit up The Galleria mall to shop for nice clothes and shoes for a night out.After that we would run over to Buda Juice and grab some ginger shots for a quick boost before checking out Myx lipstick bar in Uptown where we would make our own lipsticks.After that yes you guessed it naptime and then once we wake up shower get dressed,glammed up,and step out for a night of fun good vibes and drinks at Eddie V’s.The next day we would head straight over to Ohzone Clinics to hit up the Ohzone sauna to sweat out all of our fun from the previous day and get a boost of Ohzone into our system

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout today is going out to Torri & Kim of Laser Bar formerly (Madison Cache Medspa).I currently work at their Medspa and these two have accepted me as a fresh esthetician straight out of school with only minimal hands on experience and they have helped me grow into the confident esthetician that I am today.They always keep me in the loop of the newest webinars to attend,courses to take,certifications I will need to succeed,and helped groom me into wearing the correct business attire for my position.They definitely stay on top of me and push me when I can’t even push myself,I’m very grateful for them and also my clients.I have built bonds with them and they keep me encouraged as well.
