We had the good fortune of connecting with Derrick Dumas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Derrick, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
I will have to say quitting my job enrolling in the barber college. At the time it was a scary thing stepping out on Faith, quitting my job, a means of supporting myself and family, but it was Something that needed to be done I was very unhappy with the 9 to 5 schedule Never having time for my family or myself, lack of passion for the work I was doing, On the other hand people being judge mental thinking I was crazy to be willing to let go of my job to go to school and chase my dreams it was very scary because I didn’t have no support

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always had a passion for cutting hair a lot of the elders I looked up to in life were Barber’s so it makes sense that I grow into it, What sets me apart from other barbers is the Fact that I care about quality haircuts, to me I c.a.r.e stands for image, customer service, attention to detail, restoring confidence, and encouraging healthy hair, it wasn’t easy getting to where I am now in the beginning no one supported me I had to turn everyone into believers, there were days I doubted myself ready to walk away from this career and go get a regular 9 to 5 I had to keep reminding myself what I was doing this for. I would like for my legacy to be remembered, my motto the I C.a.r.e system being the standard for all barbers across the world

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, Dallas is a beautiful growing metropolitan so there’s a lot of things I haven’t done yet that I’m looking forward to doing I love the cowboy stadium truth kitchen epic waterpark in a tex Mex

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
