We had the good fortune of connecting with Derek Lamb and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Derek, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Staying in the ‘lab’. Reaping out the dead weight and distractions. Always staying true to my vision. I stand on these things, and they have really played in my favor.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a producer and songwriter, I set no limits. I’m inspired by so much music and so many styles. I will apply whatever comes to me naturally to a song if it fits the scenario. Even the smallest details such as the background play a huge part. I got to this point today by truly staying tapped into what I’ve been doing. No one’s opinions or second thoughts ever rerouted me. These are the things that I want the world to know. That no one’s input can stop your output unless you allow it to.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Anywhere where the music is loud, the food is good, and the vibe is right! Dallas has a good selection and still growing. But there’s no shortage of places to enjoy yourself and eat great food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shout-out to all the underrecognized talent in Dallas, especially those who bring a vision that we haven’t seen before. This is collectively what’s going to make our city a true powerhouse in the creative world.
