We had the good fortune of connecting with Demetra Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Demetra, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The amount of time, money, and effort that goes into making the 360 experience one to remember.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a High school counselor in Plano. I’ve been a school counselor for over 11 years and have worked in all grade levels. Although very trying at times, I must say my favorite age group is high schoolers.

What sets me apart from others. Well everyone has a story to tell, but not everyone makes it out. Let’s just say broken crayons still color.

I’m most proud to just be alive, and in my right mind. Life has definitely dealt me some tough blows.

How did I get where I am today professionally?….. By the Grace of God, and my amazing support system:, who happen to be complete strangers when we met over 20 years ago. No it has not been easy at all. There were days that I wanted to give up, but at the time, I had two little ones looking up to me and I couldn’t fathom failing them. I know What that’s like all too well.

The lessons I’ve learned is keep going. Even if I have to do it alone, and afraid.

I want the world to know that I take nothing for granted and life has definitely taught me character, patience, understanding, and I to always show up for myself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! My home girl Sherika. We got it out the mud together. She has been very instrumental in where I am today. Her encouraging words and pep talks were not taken for granted: We’ve supported each other through the ups and downs as well as her being there for me in one of the most difficult times in my life.

Ms. Brown, she held me and my boys down and has been a very special place in our lives for over 20 years. She has been a mother figure for me and a maternal grandmother for my boys.
