We had the good fortune of connecting with Davis Speight and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Davis, what do you attribute your success to?
There are 3 things that I live my life by: Focus, Work Ethic, and keeping a Positive Mental Attitude at all times. Unfortunately, I didn’t learn the importance of this until I was 34 years old, but once I did, it was a game changer for me. Keeping a positive mental attitude is critical for your success. If you have personal items in your mind that effect your mindset in a negative way, it will 100% effect your ability to stay focused on the job at hand. Focus is also key. I have a strange ability to check my problems at the door. It’s as if I can bottle them up and set them aside so that once I walk into the office, I am focused on nothing but the tasks in front of me. I realize this may be hard for most and it was for me as well, but once I harnessed this ability, it changed my day-to-day beyond belief. Work ethic comes down to your goals and how hard you’re willing to work for them. Set yearly, monthly, daily, or even hourly goals if needed. Schedule your day around your goals and don’t leave until everything is done. You’ve got this!
What should our readers know about your business?
We are a boutique dealership. On the surface we may seem small but come in and you’ll see over 100 vehicles in stock. All vehicles are serviced, reconditioned, and detailed back to new car standards. We have high standards for each vehicle in our inventory. Additionally, all vehicles are personally picked by me with one thing in mind. Would I personally want to own this vehicle? Let me explain, I vet all of our inventory prior to buying. What this means is that I run all of the history reports, review all ownership history along with service history and once it passes all of the checks, I buy it and in turn it gives us some pretty amazing inventory to sell. When you buy a vehicle from us you can trust that you are buying the best possible option on the market. We realize what we offer isn’t available at just any dealership and for that reason we take pride in offering and giving you the best possible experience from the moment you enter Reserve Auto Group to the moment you drive away in your new dream car. As for getting to where we are today, it was simple. We have morals, we have a business plan, and we stick to these daily. We do not deviate. We do not make exceptions. We execute day in and day out.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I personally love the Dallas skyline. I think it’s the most striking in all 50 states. I would start by taking someone to Eno’s in Bishop Arts District. They have the best thin crust pizza I’ve ever had, plus it would give us a chance to drive thru Big-D. The next night we would step it up and go to Fearing’s for dinner which is located at The Ritz Carlton in Uptown Dallas. There’s a Sommelier there named Paul. Hands down, he is the absolute best Sommelier I have ever come across and there’s no comparison. Go there and order what you want to eat and just let him bring you wines to pair with each course. You can thank me later. There are a ton of great places to eat but after those 2 nights, I say we kick back at the house and enjoy a few home-cooked meals and watch some movies in the media room or relax by the pool.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife, Jamie. She’s my best friend, my counselor, my voice of reason, and my motivator. We met and dated in high school and have now been married for 23 years. Prior to opening Reserve Auto Group, I was the founder of another large dealership in Dallas called, Starwood Motors. It was my baby and something I was very proud of. For a few reasons and what not, I had to make the very tough decision of parting ways. There was no way I could have done that without Jamie’s support. The trade- off has been worth it though. Now I am 4 stop lights from my house and able to spend a ton more time with my family. Best decision we ever made.
