We had the good fortune of connecting with David Jordan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I would have to say I want my legacy to be about how much I tried to help people. I want them to remember how I tried to help people change their lives for the better. Helping homeless veterans isnt an easy task, but its a very worthwhile one. I want to be remembered for how much I was able to do for the homeless veteran community and inspiring them to not give up and keep fighting to change their situation.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Patriot Sandwich Company was created to help support a local charity for homeless veterans called We Got Your Six. We Got Your Six was created to help the homeless veterans in our community by developing a transitional program to help them reintegrate back into society. I was a homeless veteran a few years ago, which helped develop the program. We Got Your Six doesnt get government funding or grants, so the Patriot Sandwich Company was created to help raise money for the charity. But, its more than just a sandwich shop, its an experience. Its a mini museum and eatery rolled all into one. With the walls all being painted for all 5 branches and pictures from each branch through the years, it doesnt stop there. It flows into the shadowbox tables that are there for you to eat at that have memorabilia from all the branches for you to enjoy while dining. So that sets us apart from all the other places to eat out there. I can say its been a struggle, especially since we opened up right before COVID-19 hit. But, we are still doing out best to keep the doors open, since this shop is trying to help the charity. We are still trying to overcome the challenges, every day brings a new one. Ive learned that you cant treat this time period like any other. No one has ever had to deal with something like this before, but its really good at the same time. It helps us develop as business owners.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ill be honest. I dont get out a lot, because Im always working. But, I would take them to the stockyards in Fort Worth, because there are lots of cool shops and places to eat. Plus, they have the cattle drive and everything. So that is always a good time to check out.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have to give a shoutout to all the veterans who served out country. Always fighting for their country and the rights and freedoms of everyone who lives in our country. Through my time in the military, I learned how to overcome and adapt to situations and different ways to deal with difficult challenges. I would have to thank all the NCOS and officers I worked along side over the years, as well as all the other military people I worked with. They all helped shape me into the person I am today.
