We had the good fortune of connecting with Dave Jarvis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dave, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When I first joined Blow Your Brains Out with Rick, Dave & Ariel, airing every Wednesday night 8-10pm CST, it was actually running from 9-11pm. That made Thursday really painful for all of us. Then we switched to 8-10pm, and Thursdays became way less painful.
I will say, not having a wife or kids has made so much free time available, allowing more and more opportunities to present themselves. I feel like this plague that has gripped a great number of perfectly normal men and women may be slowly killing an even greater number of them. I know my math may be off on that last sentence, but I stand by my conviction rate.
If you want free time to do what you want, you’ll make it happen. And if somebody’s actively out there stopping you, then it might be time to make a Sophie’s Choice. I believe you know what choice that is. But remember, if you must commit some sort of gruesome and unspeakable act, do it on a bank holiday.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Although the task of drinking heavy quantities of booze while waxing detuned semantics with the best and the brightest of DFW’s entertainment district may seem like a ton of work, it’s also a lot of bread and pasta. Rice with some grilled chicken and vegetables. Anything to soak up all that alcohol. But not too much, because the brain don’t cortex with all that yeast.
It needs to be a sandwich. Bread first, then hooch, then bread. And don’t forget water. Bread and water for the prisoners. Free the others. Salvation lies beyond those trees. Where the mountains speak in Mister Floppy tones and the water foams like a rabid Dachshund. Now, as long as Larry is gone, I am officially on a hunger strike. I will no longer cut my hair, and I pledge never ever to make my trademark noise “Bee-bee bee bee bee” again.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When the sedatives wore off, I would insist they untie me. As the feeling came back to my feet, I started seeing colors again. The Trespassers had returned from their nightly visit to the cemetery with dinner in hand. I knew they had used nylon rope to tie me up. Now would be my chance.
With a swift motion in my disembodied frame, I had incapacitated my captors and was now running down Abram Street in downtown Arlington. The Levitt Pavilion was a reasonable place to recuperate, but the children could smell the fear on me. It was pungent. It was raw.
Around the corner, I was able to borrow shoes from someone in a loft in exchange for some light yardwork. They let me keep the rake.
Hunger began to set in. I swiped a taco that had been left on the window sill of J. Gilligan’s. The medium guac subsided the guilt I felt.
In a state of great fear and apprehension, I called a cab to GROWL Records as I thumbed through old Smiths B-Sides. The cab never arrived.
I was taken by the obese brothel monster that set up shop next door. I am now writing to you from his underground cage as he fattens me up to bake me in one of his pies. Tell my family I love them very much.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this interview to all those other conversations out there that could only wish to become an interview, but must sadly wait outside and look in while dad has a quick one before stumbling out to the mule cart and passing out next to the family well. Where so many others have lost their lives. A thousand apologies to all those concerned, but especially to you, dear viewer. For raising your hopes so high, only to dash them on the rocky shores of Crackerbox Palace.
