We had the good fortune of connecting with Darren Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darren, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My initial thought process behind starting my own business was fear, anxiety, self-doubt; but at the same time excitement, adventure, and gratitude.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I chose the category art/creative not in the typically way you would think of art as a painting or musician. I chose this category because I like to create in other ways. Bottom line up front I am a personal trainer in the fitness industry, but I thoroughly love and enjoy creating workouts for people and showing them new initiative ways to take charge of their fitness. I believe fitness is a crucial aspect to living a long, healthy life and I genuinely enjoy seeing people reaching their goals. What sets me apart from others is that I thoroughly love helping people the best way I know how. To be honest if I could train people for free I would just to see them happy with their lives as far as fitness goes. My journey to this point has most certainly not been easy. It has been a long, winding road full of hurdles and obstacles. I grew up in the hood of Providence, Rhode Island; and although my parents worked very hard to give me and my three brothers a better life it was very difficult for me to separate myself from the environment I grew up in. Full disclosure I have been arrested and have been in many fights when I was a younger man. For whatever reason God spared and protected my life, as there are many friends even family members I grew up with in Rhode Island who have been lost forever to violence and crime. I thank God everyday for allowing me a second chance at life and liberty and that is the attitude I try to bring with me every morning I wake up. The number one thing I have learned along my journey is to never give up on your dreams and goals no matter how long it takes. I want the world to know the power of determination. You can be anything you want to be in life if you put your mind to it. Also the power of positivity, we all have a choice to make when we are faced with struggles and setbacks (which we all face), the choice is ours to make whether we chose to approach the problem with a solution and use it as a learning experience; or we can let our problems consume us and drag us down. In my opinion positivity and problem solving is the way to go.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite place of all-time to bring people is The Star in Frisco, Texas. The Star is the world headquarters of the Dallas Cowboys who are not only my favorite football team, but favorite sports franchise of all time. Whenever I travel to The Star with family and friends the vibes are always good. There is so much to do there and they have mini turf football field outside, and shining bright over the field is a huge flat screen tv where they play Cowboys highlights. Many people come from all over the world to visit The Star. Seeing all the families letting their kids run around on the grass, play catch, and interact is a wonderful sight to see. There are also many state of the art bars, restaurants, and retail shops for people to enjoy. Possibly the best part about going to The Star is seeing the rich history behind the storied Dallas Cowboys franchise. From past and previous players, coaches, Hall of Famers, to stats and records broken along the way. The staff at The Star is always professional and friendly, and they host many events there for the community. Frisco ISD plays there high school football at the Ford Center which is a mini stadium where the Cowboys practice, and they have a Veterans Day jersey signing which is very special to me. If i could go to The Star and hangout everyday I probably would. Coming after The Star is Downtown Dallas. Downtown Dallas is rich in history with its art district, museums, zoos, and aquariums. There is a monument where President John F. Kennedy was shot, and also an “X” on the road in the exact spot where he was hit. The zoos and museums are full of animals to look at for both kids and adults. Next, I would take a trip to Austin, Texas, more specifically Lake Travis. Austin is an entirely different city then Dallas. While Dallas is a bit more urbanized Austin is a much more rural city with beautiful scenery. Austin is basically engineered on a series of cliffs and hills and Lake Travis is a huge beautiful lake right in the middle of the city. One of my favorite places to go on Lake Travis is called The Oasis. The Oasis is a small tourist attraction town that is built right into the cliff side of Lake Travis. There is a wonderful TexMex restaurant there that over looks the beautiful lake. Also in Austin there are many caverns, lagoons, and natural spring creeks that people can explore. Although there would be much more to see here in Texas I think this would be enough sight seeing for one week.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I would like to thank God for sending his angels to watch over my life, to guide me in the right direction, and to give me peace and understanding when I need it most. Next I would like to thank my wife for always supporting me. Her endless love, forgiveness, and dedication drives me to only work harder for my family. Lastly, I would like to thank all my close friends and family. More specifically my parents for never giving up on me; ‘till this day they have been there to give me advice, praise when I am doing right, and correction when I am doing wrong.
