We had the good fortune of connecting with Darilyn Buggage and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darilyn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Honestly the idea of my own salon suite started after I had my son, who is now almost 5. I knew I would have to take my career to another level to ensure I’d be available at home more for him as he got older.

So about after 3 1/2 years of working for a company, I took majority of my clients and branched out. My specialty is hair extensions and styling for events. Luckily, here in Dallas, the beauty industry is an everyday need for alot of women.

I have also had a 10 year background in doing makeup. I was able to incorporate that at my salon and it’s been working ever since.

I’ll be celebrating 5 years this October.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always been a super artistic person. I love painting, diy projects, etc. With hair and makeup it’s such a big expression of art but just on a person.

I think what sets me apart from others in the industry is that I’ve never looked at my career as work. I genuinely can do hair and makeup all day and not think twice about it. It can be a downside sometimes because the world is so content based when it comes to getting your business out there. I forget I have to be on socials like that alot of the time.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to just be true to yourself. With the beauty industry, I think over saturation isn’t really a thing. Most of the time clients choose you for your work but stay around for your personality. The more you are youself and inviting to others. It helps with the longer you’ll keep clients around.

I just want others to know that I love my career. I wouldn’t want to do anything else. Giving someone the confidence of looking thief best and having the talent to do it. It’s a blessing and skill I’ll never take for granted.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So I’m the foodie and event person in my group. I will try every new place I can, usually alone.

If it was a Saturday, I’d start on Katy Trail because I workout about 4x a week. It’s a great way to see some of the city. Then I’d take them for brunch at Sadelle’s in Highland Park. The coffee and tuna stack is the best thing ever. We’d probably also walk around and shop.

Then for dinner I’d probably have her choose between some of my favorites. The restaurants I frequent the most are Moxies, The Mexican, The Charolette, Joey’s Dallas and Catch. Another all time favorite is Del Frisco’s uptown.

We could end the night at Regine’s Lounge or Lounge 31.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d definitely have to shout out my Grandma, Cheryl. When I moved to Dallas really young , she took care of me. We’ve had ups and down but she’s literally my best friend. There isn’t anything she doesn’t know about me and she’s never passed judgement.

About two years ago she moved in with me and my son. It’s rare to have that now a days. So many generations in one household.

Honestly without her I wouldn’t be able to work as hard and often as I do. She’s the greatest woman I’ve ever been blessed to know.
