We had the good fortune of connecting with Darcy DeBord and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darcy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
What first inspired me was seeing the passion that my husband Daniel had for the plumbing trade, and how he used that to mentor and inspire young men. I was fortunate enough to witness a very small part of how those people grew personally and professionally. They took pride in their work and they were amazing at what they did. I wanted in! I knew if we combined my hospitality background and their plumbing expertise, we could create something unique. So that is what we did. We have always had a heart for community and people. As we dreamed about what we wanted our business to look like and what we wanted to stand for, community and people were the heart of those dreams. We wanted to use our influence as small business owners to position ourselves in a way that we could meet and collaborate with other local small business owners to discover gaps in the community and develop plans to fill those gaps. We never wanted to be just a plumbing company. We believe we are called to so much more than that. We have been able to invest in employees personally and professionally as we grow roots in our community.

What should our readers know about your business?
We are a woman owned and operated residential service plumbing company. Every single one of our technicians are licensed, background checked, and drug tested with over 20 years of experience. We are serious about providing exceptional customer service to accompany our first-class work. Shortcuts to save a few bucks here and there do not exist in our business strategy. We believe that our employees can provide the best customer service when they are equipped mentally, physically, and spiritually. To facilitate these ambitious expectations, we employ an in-house counselor that is available to each employee, on a regular basis. We know life does not stop when an employee clocks in for work, and we want to ensure they feel supported even outside of work. I especially love seeing how each employee uses their unique talent to redefine the industry.

As we have grown in the community, I have become increasingly passionate about my involvement in service opportunities that have presented themselves. We have been able to partner with Prosper Education Foundation to sponsor various events, and have funded the Be Still and Know Scholarship. In the next few months, I am delighted to be able to help plan the annual Cornerstone Gala. Cornerstone is a faith-based nonprofit that takes a wholistic approach to helping community members in need. I am so encouraged every time I meet with a new charity. There are brilliant members of our community doing big, important things. I feel so blessed to be able jump in and help in any way I can. It’s why we are in business.

I 100% would not be where I am but for the grace of God, my amazing family, my crazy supportive friends, and a lot of hard work. Being a business owner is not for the faint of heart. It is full of highs and lows. You have to surround yourself with a support network and I am so grateful that I have been blessed with a pretty great one. I think the biggest lesson I have learned is that everything can’t be perfect but it can be made right. I am a bit of a perfectionist. I still remember my first 4 star review like it was yesterday. I was so disappointed. I had unrealistic expectations. I thought if I just worked hard enough, every call would go perfect and everyone would love us. Well let me tell you, that was exhausting. Now, my standards have not changed. I still want perfection and I still want everyone to love us. But I also understand that things happen and the most growth happens in those moments. Winston Churchill says it like this, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I think any great day starts with iced coffee. So we would start with Summer Moon. My drink of choice is a spiced chai with a double shot of espresso. I don’t know about you, but there is something about an iced caffeinated beverage that screams shopping. My two favorite boutiques in the area are Black Willow in Prosper and Annie Jack on the Celina Square. They have the cutest stuff and would be the perfect place to get a great outfit for a long weekend. If we were feeling a little adventurous we might head to the Red River Motorcycle Trails for some trail rides in the side by side and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Or if we are wanting to stay close to home we can always go get a good drink at the Gin and enjoy some live music. If there is a group of us Legacy Hall is the perfect spot. There are so many choices for food and live music. Honestly, good company, good food, and good music can make a great time any where.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people I can mention. For one, I have a very supportive family. We really cheer each other on. My dad would always tell me I can do anything I set my mind to and I really think he believed that to be true. My sister is one of the most inspiring people I know. I swear there is nothing that girl can’t do. Except drive…she is a horrible driver. But in all seriousness, she has always pushed me to be the best version of myself. I want to be like my little sister when I grow up. Last but certainly not least my husband, Daniel. I can confidently say that I would not appreciate the intricacies of plumbing without him. He is passionate about the trade and it is contagious. He also is one of the hardest workers I know. He is often in the background making sure that everything goes smooth for everyone else. He loves seeing others succeed and has spent his career building others up. I am so glad that our daughter gets to have him as her father.
