We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Yanez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business was one of the most scariest things i’ve ever done. I had no reference to start with, I did not know a single business owner. So to say the least I had no idea what i was doing or where to start. The only thing i knew was that I had to start to get what and where i wanted. I had this crazy notion that I could be a great artist and in the beginning I was some what delusional. I thought i was good and would be successful right off the jump. but now that i look back and realize how much ive grown and how could i have ever thought that knowing now what i do now. I guess you kind of have to be delusional to ever think you have a chance good enough to leap so hard into that dream. but im glad i did.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art has been evolving professionally for the last 20 years, a road that was simultaneously extremely hard and easy. I compare it cleche-ously to a roller coaster ride, many ups and downs but was always exciting. I remember first realizing the possibility of becoming a professional artist in college. walking in to my first art gallery change my perspective and my life. after that day i knew this is what i wanted to do. i believed God gave me the gift to create so thats what my purpose on earth is. Now Art is all I do full time. I am truly Blessed.
I get asked all the time what sets me apart from everyone else or what separates my art, and I use to give all kinds of answers. Yes my style may look different and my use of color and patterns may make a unique distinction but i believe more today Art is that one thing that makes us all the same. I dont waste my time anymore trying to make the distinctions but more on how it can bring us together and how we are so much alike and its not that important to be seperated from reality. why do i want to be so different? we are special together when you put things into perspective.
All i want to the world to know about me and my story is that i believe we are so much alike. We are all some type of duller or extreme version of each others personalities. I want to capture that in my work, and i just want to be left in y creations.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
With my favorite spot now days being home with the family I would say I am out the loop of whats a great spot in the city. I think i would take them to sites of some of my murals so they can take in the art and then we can visit some new spots together and create some unique memories.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a huge shout out to all my family. I would not be where I am today without them. they are my motivation and my inspiration.
