We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Moody and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I started my business it was actually out of desperation to survive the recession. Once I started actually working the business I realized how important it was to not only have multiple streams of income but to also have something I could pass down to my children.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business offers a wide range of services in the Security and Firearm Industry. I work with a network of security companies to provide Uniform Officer armed and un-armed as well as Executive Protection officers. Our specialty is Church Security and Emergency Planning. What set’s us apart from others in the industry is our connection to the church. I’ve been in church all my life and I’ve served in Leadership in the church for over 25 years of my life. It is that experience that allows me to have the heart of the Pastor and know the pulse of the church. With this knowledge I’m able to lead a team of men and women within the church that are fluid and tapped into the Holy Spirit. We treat Gods people with respect and we ask the same in return from the perishers. What I’ve seen in this business is a lot of security company personnel lack the soft skills needed to work in a church environment. I started working in security back in the early 90’s and while doing so realized that my local church needed some form of security. It was from there that I went on to become the first Director of Security of the State of Tennessee Full Gospel Baptist Church and head of Security at my local Church Golden Gate Cathedral. From there I moved to the Dallas, TX area and joined The Potters House Church and became a part of their security ministry. I’ve sense gone on to become the Director of Facilities and Safety for the Potters House North Dallas. Over the last two years I started training friends and family how to properly use firearms. Last year I took that to another level and was licensed as a License to Carry (firearm) Instructor in the States of TN and TX. In the wake of the murder of George Floyd I started receiving more and more calls from people of color especially women who were concerned about their safety. I went from doing one class a month to over four a week with 80% being black women. When this begin to happen I immediately understood the gravity of the responsibility I had to not only teach our people the law but to ensure they knew how to properly carry and not to become a vigilantly. It’s not just enough to own or carry a firearm you also need to know how quickly you can get yourself in trouble if you’re breaking the law. It hasn’t been easy trying to balance ministry and dealing with the threats we see in the world. For me having a prayer life and strong support from family and friends has been a life saver. In the last two years One of the things I’ve learned along the way is if you’re going to be successful you must surround yourself with people that have nothing to gain or lose by the counsel they’re giving you. If the person or persons that are giving you advice have something to gain or lose they will always guide you in the direction that best serves them. What I want people to know about Diplomatic Emergency and Crisis Management is yes you can get firearms training, emergency planning, or security anywhere however with me you’re getting someone that cares about you and your family. When I’m on the range with someone I’m training them how to survive and get home to their family. You’re not a number or a dollar sign but a soul I care about. I take the time to explain what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and how to do it. I even make myself available after training for questions. When it comes to personal protection I look at each individual as my own daughter, son, sister, brother, mother, aunt, etc and protect them just as I would my family minus the emotions. If you call on me for any service know that you will get the best that’s on the market.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Let’s say it’s post pandemic LOL I would definitely take them to the Perot Museum as it’s a very interesting environment. We would then head to the lower Greenville District for brunch. The Lower Greenville District is a hidden gem with quite a few places to eat and have fun. The only thing missing is a place to shop however after eating at some of the restaurants all you want to do is probably get a Steel City Popsicle and lay down. For dinner I would take them to DJ’s Stake House on Midway Road in Addison. The food is good, music is on point, and service is some of the best in DFW. Most of my friends or family know how I am about guns so one of the things that’s a must do is the gun range. I’ve shot at a lot of gun ranges in the DFW Metroplex but there’s none like Eagle Gun Range in Farmers Branch. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable of guns and do their best to keep everyone safe. Another good place to hangout is Legacy West in Plano. The food, shops, people, and activities offer something for everyone in the family or group. You won’t be disappointed.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my mother Mrs. Fannie Mae Moody who’s gone home to be with the Lord. My mother raised us as a single parent after my father passed, it was six of us four boys and two girls. At that time my mother was only making $75 a week, however, she never gave up, made sure we knew who was the boss, and she kept all of us out of jail. When I hear people say women can’t raise boys I say “yes they can because my mom did it.” I get what people are saying however I know it can be done because not only did my mother do it there are other mothers that have done it and are still doing it today.
