We had the good fortune of connecting with DaKevia Long and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DaKevia, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
When I hear the words artistic or creative I think about how things are perceived. We live in a time where people’s thought process is one-sided but the beauty of a creative career is that it’s limitless. Honestly the creative career chose me, I was just a girl obsessed with capturing a moment in my life. As a creative, I have the freedom to visually express a feeling, a meaningful moment, or the next trending brand.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a Lifestyle Portrait + Personal Branding Photographer, empowering female entrepreneurs to be their best authentic self through visual art and relationships. As someone who is passionate about community and serving others, I am committed to assisting my clients in connecting with their ideal audience and delivering an unmatched brand experience. I analyze the complexities within each brand and apply my problem-solving skills to execute their brand vision and voice. I simply enjoy taking “that thing” and finding ways to make it better!

Enduring has brought me to this phase in business, the journey isn’t always pleasant when you just dive in and try figuring it out on your own. Investing in education and a daily restoration of faith has help me to overcome any challenges within my business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We can’t start our day without carbs so we’re definitely brunching, Bread Winners or Yolk! When we’re wanting to wine down, we’ll hang out at Times Ten Cellars for a nice cute aesthetic. Visit the Art Museum and experience some dope creatives/artist. Dine at Kitchen + Kocktails and end the night in Deep Ellum.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Most definitely my sister, Veronica! While on the journey to self discovery after college, she was the main person in my corner pushing me to find my purpose and go after it. Also my husband, Marcus! He gives me those tough love talks that help me to take risk I wouldn’t otherwise take. I wouldn’t be photographing today if he hadn’t purchased my first DSLR. Last but certainly not least, my mother! She’s held my hand through any choice I’ve made and choosing a creative career was no different.
