We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtni Fields and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtni, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Alchemy athletics was born out of my passion for fitness and my love of the fantasy/adventure genre.
I have worked in fitness for over seven years. In that time, I noticed despite all of the options, I still never found a workout format that left me feeling empowered as well as health. I only ever really found that particular feeling reading books or watching films. I figured other people had to feel the same way.
Alchemy Athletics combines the structure of Pilates and yoga with the movements and power of Mixed Martial Arts. My goal is to help people find the power inside themselves and also create an accessible form of fitness for people who want a little more creativity in their workouts.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I developed Alchemy Athletics to bridge the gap for fans of fantasy, D&D. and other adventure genres. I wanted to create a type of fitness program that let you become the hero of your own story.
I started my journey teaching traditional formats, but sometimes I just wanted to fall completely into something. I wanted to create an immersive experience for people, even if it was just for an hour or so. So far on this journey, I have learned to be my authentic self and the right people will meet you halfway.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite parts of Dallas is the food. There are always new places popping up or old places deserving a perfect happy hour drop in. Right now my favorite restaurants are The Mayor’s House by Selda and Tacos y Vino. Both are in the Bishop Arts district and make a perfect girls’ night spot, with their amazing patios and even better food. I also really love Bar W across from Fair Park Music Hall for a pre show drink spot. Their Manhattan is my personal favorite.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think my success comes from a long line of strong and compassionate women throughout my life. My love of the fantasy genre is due to my elementary school librarian. My mother is an amazing example of how to run a business and dedicate oneself to their craft. Finally, I think my love of fitness instruction came from Sineyda Ortiz. She was the person who trained me for my first group fitness position. She has challenged me to push my boundaries and expand my skills for almost a decade now.
