Meet Clive Childress | Director/Creative

We had the good fortune of connecting with Clive Childress and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Clive, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
When I was little I was never into any of the extracurricular activities that was provided. So after an extraneous session of trails and errors I finally came to realize theatre was an area I was passionate about. There was a certain magic to performing on the stage, giving the audience an out of the current world we live in. Since then I came into my own with the craft and dabbled into many various aspects of Live Theatre: Light Tech, Sound Tech, Projection, Directing, Musical Director, Choreographer, Set Designer, Performer, the list goes on. Of course was stronger in certain facades than others.
But the one thing I tell every cast of is “We don’t just do this for us. We do this for the audience, and to give them an experience. And to remember ‘The theatre is magic. There’s magic in the theatre. And blessed art those who create that magic.’ “

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to believe/think that I am a versatile artist. I will do many kinds of live productions then ranging from other entertainment media. The most proud I’ve been in a seriously long time is the Death Note Adaptation Musical I was able to Direct and create. A long awaited project that was years in the making that finally got to see the light of day.
I have definitely realized over the years how to effectively make projects for the selective audiences that have a love for the material, and been lucky enough to gain a strong team who are willing to have fun and create with me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If we’re talking about the DFW area, I adore interactive experiences. One place I recently took an amazing person of mine was Meowulf. It’s an experience that you can make as long or short as you like. And the exploration is seriously top tier.
Escape rooms are a great way to have fun with friends. The best of friends will be able to work with you and do each others best to escape together.
For a calm day out we would go to places like Madness Comics and other Nerdy stores/conventions to geek out with each others interests.
Food and drinks I’m very open.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents and family are a pivotal force of my love for my craft, and the extreme effort they made to make sure I could always do the things I love.
Art Centre Theatre, allowing me to hone my craft and create my wild adventurous projects to life.
My friends who have supported me, came to see the shows and participated in my projects.
Brook Baker & Kim Walls for directing with me and be a fighting force to see my projects come true and to life. And being such wonderful big supporters of my dreams.
Rebecca Marano & Eric Garcia for allowing me to have an open dialogue and give my story.
And to my special person in my life Gravity who has given me courage to do things like this and tell my story.
