We had the good fortune of connecting with Claudia Pineda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Claudia, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“No importa que tan dificil sea la vida…nunca dejes de sonreir y creer en ti mismo…todo tiene solucion excepto la muerte.”
No matter how difficult life gets, never stop smiling or believing in yourself. Everything has a solution except death. You can go through a lot of things that are difficult and lose a lot. Cry what you need to cry about, but get up and try again with a smile and the strength of continuing on.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Each piece is handmade. The ceramic is made by artisans in Mexico, which still hold the knowledge, tradition, and creativity of years and years passed down. We are just trying to share that with everyone we encounter and hope they can enjoy it as much as we do. Each piece is made with love, time, and dedication to arrive and be part of someone’s home. We added a bit more function to the ceramic coffee mugs (tazitas) and other ceramic pieces (bowls, small pots, and decorative containers) to hold a soy wax candle. Each ceramic soy wax candle is made by me and prepared by my daughters. We each have a role in making each piece special, whether the scent or the selection of the ceramic piece. It continues on that each piece can be something more. Artesanias Claudia wouldn’t be where it is today without me and my daughters working together on everything. We work as a team and a family to achieve our goals. We are always looking for new ideas to keep this going. It hasn’t been completely easy but we do communicate and try to figure things out. We have grown a lot since starting this years ago and then restarting Artesanias Claudia back in December 2021. Everything in our world has changed a lot as well but it has made us more dedicated and confident.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite pizza places is down in Plano, Tx “Urban Crust”. It’s a great place to hang out, eat dinner, or even have some drinks up on the rooftop (Texas weather permitting, of course).
For some casual walking or light shopping, Greenville Ave has so much to offer from desserts, shops, restaurants, and places for a drink. White Rock Lake or Rockwall Harbor for a nice stroll for chatting and views of the lake.
If they are new to Dallas, we’d go visit downtown Dallas to some popular spots like the At&t Discovery District and walk down to the Twisted Trompo for some delicious tacos.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother, Antonia, was always very creative. She always had an idea for everything. She showed us that you can always do a lot of things to move forward. She never gave up even when things looked bleak. I learned that creativity doesn’t have an end or limit from her. Now that I have my two daughters, I try to show them what she taught me and we do creative things together and we are happy learning new things like she did.
My mother is the whole driving force of our family to keep on going, work hard, and never stop from what we try to achieve. She is still fighting for life every day and we try to follow her example.
Artesanias Claudia is just the beginning of a lot of vision I have of bringing a bit of that creativity and culture from Mexico. I want to bring more of the endless creativity that artisans in Mexico have so that people also learn from us what all the Mexican culture has to offer and more.
