We had the good fortune of connecting with Clara Matos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Clara, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
Having grown up as a first-generation American, I was deeply influenced by my parents’ unwavering commitment to providing a better future for my siblings and me. Their transition from traditional employment to self-employment exemplified the entrepreneurial spirit, which has motivated me to pursue my own business ventures.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being the firstborn child of immigrant parents from Mexico and Puerto Rico, I faced unique challenges. Growing up, I struggled with the language barrier, and my teenage pregnancy derailed my initial plans for higher education. Despite these obstacles, I was fortunate to have the unwavering support of my parents.

Determined to build a better future, I enrolled in a community college to pursue a degree in Business Administration. My affinity for numbers led me to the world of finance, where I began my career in a modest filing room. Through hard work and dedication, I climbed the corporate ladder, eventually becoming a Credit Analyst and team leader. I juggled my career, motherhood, and education, proving to myself that I could overcome any challenge.

My desire to help others led me to pursue a real estate career. I successfully passed both the national and state exams on my first attempts, a significant milestone in my journey. I attribute my achievements to persistence, resilience, and the unwavering belief that God has guided my path.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Dallas and its neighboring cities are brimming with exciting activities. One of my favorite spots is Grandscape in The Colony, where I can indulge in delicious food, sip on fine wine, and enjoy live music under the summer sky. For a truly special evening, I recommend Te Deseo in Dallas. Their mouthwatering dishes and breathtaking rooftop views make it an unforgettable dining experience.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this Shoutout series to my family, particularly the remarkable strong women who have inspired me. I am privileged to be the third generation of a five-generation family.
