We had the good fortune of connecting with Chrystal Booty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chrystal, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 weeks following my 30th birthday. At the time I was a single mom of 3 boys; 6,8 & 11. It was very difficult maintaining basic home needs let alone not having other individuals in the same boat that I could relate to was very stressful financially and emotionally while having to go through treatment. I founded Pieces of Hope Texas on the basis of helping other cancer warriors with financial assistance, resources and emotional support while going through treatment. Our logo represents different forms of cancer that have affected those close to me and our pieces represent providing “hope in small pieces” In 2021 I celebrated my 10 year cancerversary.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My background consist of 21 years in the medical field. Now that my last son is a senior in high school I can focus on my goals and see my dreams come to reality. Balancing work life and personal life is definitely a challenge and times where I’m up late hours or up early hours, even putting off or not attending outings because I’m working on my professional duties. I’ve learned you have to find a balance along the way and also have self-care built in because there have been times mentally that I just want to give up because its too much to handle. I want everyone to know that even though life obstacles happen, dont give up – continue to go for your dreams and the success of succeeding is surreal and such a huge accomplishment that no one can take away from you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m still exploring the city but my favorite spots for food/drinks we would definitely have to go to Yardbirds, Nick and Sams, Capital Grille and Tupelo Honey at The Star. Love the balcony seating/day Vibe at Stirr Addison. XOXO is super cool spot for great pictures – can’t miss there. I also love Sambuca’s for night weekend vibe. The Shops at Legacy, Watters Creek and hitting the outlet mall.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to recognize Mrs.DeAnn Graham with We Serve-NonProfit Development Program. Mrs. Graham and her entire team were a God send with the encouragement, guidance and leadership throughout the program. I can’t thank her enough.
