We had the good fortune of connecting with Christy Bryan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christy, what’s your definition for success?
I believe success is such a fluid concept and it really depends on the individual in question. If you had asked me this question 10 years ago (as a single, corporately employed, 20-something), my answer probably would’ve been some canned version of this — I want to climb the corporate ladder, earn raises and promotions and be recognized by my peers as an intelligent, career driven and self sufficient woman. Today (as a married, self employed, mother of one), my response is quite different — I don’t care about corporate ladders anymore, they only serve to represent a goal that works for someone else’s benefit. I want to make my own success on my own terms. I want to earn the respect of those in my community and the privilege to serve my customers impeccably. I want to raise a family that is happy and healthy. I want to be recognized as someone who is caring, giving, generous, open to opportunity, friendly and if I can create wealth doing something I truly enjoy, then that is what success means to me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I launched my own Mary Kay business in the Summer of 2022. I am an Independent Beauty Consultant within a unit of over 50 women across the nation. I am most excited about the opportunity to build my own business, with products I believe in and the flexibility to be available for my family as I need. This business has allowed me to build a confidence that I didn’t know I had. I have met new people who have become new friends. I can self-promote within my unit (I earned my first Red Jacket this Spring). I control my income amount. I have become part of a community that is tight-knit and supportive. As with anything good, you get out of it what you put into it. But I love that I can build this business on my own terms and at my own pace; I’m in business for myself but not by myself. But mainly, I love that I get to enrich women’s lives, not just with beauty products, but with relationships and a business opportunity.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Far North Dallas where a lot of development is always happening. There are always new hot spots popping up! A few favorite places to eat are Bob’s Steak & Chophouse, Kotta Sushi (Frisco), Truluck’s, Suburban Yacht Club, Jose, and Hudson House. My husband and I love frequenting movie theaters and a few of our favorites are Studio Move Grill, Alamo Drafthouse and the Angelika. Favorite places to hang out are Grandscape at the Colony, Boardwalk at Granite Park, The Star Frisco and Legacy West. I also love speakeasy bars and a few of my favorites are the Rare Books Bar, Red Phone Booth, Thompsons Bookstore, and Room One Eleven. Dallas Arboretum and Reunion Tower are must-visit spots!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people in my life I owe my current success to. Firstly, my husband Josh Bryan, who has been my biggest source of encouragement and support as I’ve changed career paths, started my own businesses, built a new identity after our son was born, and pursued the things I love and need to thrive in my life. My parents who raised me to leave things better than the way I found them and to pursue greater things than what I thought possible. My siblings who keep a healthy sense of rivalry alive between us because they are all four so talented in their own rights. My son, Liam, who has changed me, for the better, and in ways I never thought possible; it is because of him that I push myself to go beyond my own perceived limits. And most recently, the Mary Kay organization and my Unit Director, Katelyn Fenner; without her “sticktoitiveness” and her friendship, I would never have pursued a career path with this incredible company and subsequently would be a much lesser person than I am now.
