We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher O’Neal and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christopher, how do you think about risk?
I feel like with taking risk, you’re testing the fullest potential of any possibility that could come to existence. It’s just like gambling or even hustling to an extent, it’s all about taking a real chance. You never know how high you can jump if you never take a leap. The role I feel taking risk has played in my career is it’s gotten me to a place I never thought I would be. I’ve been able to interact with people who I consider Legends, a simple risk got me in that position. It’s about not being afraid, not allowing ‘No’ to stop you in any way. You almost have to become fearless in order to get what you want. I feel the real benefits comes within taking a risk.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Hip Hop Artist & Producer and Recording & Mixing Engineer as well. I think the thing that sets me apart is the willingness to try new things with my sound. The chance taking ability factor. I got to where I’m at by not following in someone else’s expectations of me. I chose my own way. Something worth having is never issue. I overcame by getting in school to learn more, seek possible connections. Really trying my luck of applying the pressure and doing the work that was needed. The lessons I’ve learned along the way is, really have a determined mind to do what you say you’re going to do. There’s nothing more regretting than giving your word to self and not being able to keep it. That’s never been my style. I just want the world to know I’ve been around the world and back, to live life. I’ve encounter so my experiences and adversity on the way but never gave up. I want the world to know when you believe in self, there’s no limit to the accomplishments and achievements you can obtain.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Eh, if I don’t keep them hostage in the studio with me lol, I’d say the downtown Chicago area for sure. Check out a few things in Pilsen. Slide to Wicker Park and Logan Square as well. See a few things in the Hyde Park area. I’m one of those people that kinda like to stumble into things on their own so of course there’s no specific spot I would name. I like to go where I please and set the vibes from there. If I had to name a place, I will say Emporium is a always a spot worth checking out when it comes to the music scene, even Deadbolt.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
