We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up I knew I wanted to be my own boss. I saw my Mom do it for years. I knew I wanted more out of a career instead of just a paycheck. I wanted to help. I always thought over the years what can I do, what’s my passion? It wasn’t until the end of 2016 when I actually found it. I told my fiancé one day after he got home from work that we buy so many candles I think I would like to make us some. He ordered me a kit the next day and I have been making candles ever since. I started off making candles just for us and doing yoga daily just for a piece of mind and to help my body snap back after just having a baby, but it became so much more. I felt like I was obligated to help my people learn what I was learning and help them feel what I was feeling with the power of Yoga. I am now a certified yoga instructor and make aromatherapy candles that goes hand in hand with my yoga classes and what I’m trying to accomplish with my business. So here we go, Welcome to Relaxation Sanction
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a yoga instructor and also make candles & other natural items. I started with candles then added yoga once I completed my certification. Relaxation Sanction was built to teach & aid anyone in need of a release from everyday life. The yoga style I focus on is Restorative Yoga. This style concentrates on very slow, deep breathing, & meditation. The aromas my candles give off aid in that same relaxation in the comfort of your own home.
I am most proud of how far I have come. I love being able to teach my students about natural healing, calmness, and overall taking care of their mind & body. I believe what sets me apart is the passion I have for what I do. Yoga has helped me personally with less stress, more energy, and being healthy in my everyday life. It has taught me to slow down and enjoy every moment, small or big. Life takes us so fast we forget to calm ourselves and let our bodies and minds be in the moment of true relaxation & restoring.
This journey has not always been easy. I felt so over whelmed at times. I had a 9 to 5, was going through yoga certification class, & making & selling candles. I had a lot of support from my daughter’s and fiancé, they kept me motivated and helped with anything they could. I am so appreciative of my support system.
There has been lessons learned along the way. I did everything on my own without the knowledge of starting a business. I have spent a lot of time, money, and energy on this business and you have to always make sure your prices on your products and services reflect all of these things. I had to learn how to manage my time, starting and keeping your business is very time consuming. Also you can not please everyone, be yourself no matter what.
I’m very excited about the future of Relaxation Sanction and they type of impact my small business will have on the world.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ashim’s Hibachi Grill is one my favorite places to eat in the city my fiancé and I eat here probably once a week! It’s in the heart of downtown Fort Worth so you get some scenery too. Another one if you wanna try some BBQ is Smoke-A-Holics. Very very delicious. A place we like to take our girls is Bahama Bucks all year round snow cones we love it.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I would like to thank God. We are blessed are very appreciative. Definitely my fiancé KB. I feel he believed in me more than I believed in myself. When I want to give up or don’t feel motivated he gives me the push I need to keep this this thing going. He prays with with me and for me. He popped me off giving me the confidence and tools I needed to get started. My Mom for showing me at a young age you can be your own boss and if you work hard on your business it will pay off. My Dad for always encouraging me to do whatever I wanted in life. My family and friends for believing and supporting me, whether it was buying candles, coming to yoga classes, sharing my posts or simply telling someone about my business. I appreciate it all.
