Meet Christian Harper | Creative Photographer & Model

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Harper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christian, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks are fun! And risk taking is a very essential part of the creative process in general. For me, the biggest risks I took were the others shrouded in uncertainty. There have many instances where I have taken a risk for the betterment of my career. An example would be my move to New York City. I was very nervous and anxious to make the move, and it had seemed like just a dream for the longest until I took the leap of faith. Now I am living the life I dreamed of and there is still so much more to do!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Truthfully, I am currently in a transitional period with my art and art style. For photography, I take creative portraits and primarily work in the fashion industry. I also enjoy doing editorial work, and event photography. When it comes to modeling, I model in similar shoots. I really enjoy expressing my gender and working with photographers who aren’t afraid of out of the box concepts. I have dabbled in many different mediums, such as videography, graphic design, and multi-media collage work. I’ve established myself and my brand very well, I can say when you look at my work you know that it’s mine. That is my favorite quality about it: the authenticity. My work truly speaks for itself, and I take a special amount of time to home in on the details most ignore. Was it easy? I wish! But that’s what makes it fun. The biggest lesson I have learned is to always stay true to yourself, and everything else will fall into place.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It’s been a minute since I have been to the city, but from my past experiences here is what I’d recommend. My ideal day would be starting off with some art, so maybe hit the Dallas Musuem of Art or the Bishop Arts district. A picnic in a park would be cute, Klyde Warren would be fab. Then we could hit some thrifts, maybe go to Deep Ellum and see some live music. I’m a party girl so I would love to dance a bit. My favorite spots for nightlife are Ruins and Ladylove Lounge. Dallas nightlife has come a long way since I had first started going out. There are many more events for all types of crowds, you would normally catch me at Shakedwn or Family & Friends.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Well of course. There are so many people I can shoutout, such as close friends, but I want to give a huge shout out to my late grandpa. We weren’t the closest during his time on Earth, but he had always pushed me to follow my dreams. At the time I didn’t know what my dream was, but he told me that whatever I do, I’ll do it well. He would always get really excited about my photography. I never realized how much he influenced me until he passed. Majority of his life he was a carpenter, so he too was a very creative individual. I got a lot of my creativity from him, in my family that hustle gets passed down from generation to generation. I still feel his spirit often when I’m in the process of creating art. I miss him dearly and work very hard to make him proud.
