We had the good fortune of connecting with Chrissy Mixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chrissy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After my struggle and victory with thyroid cancer, I realized that so many women have the same battle I went through of dealing with weight challenges and low self esteem. Being a lover of all things fashion, it was time for me to offer a brand that tailor made women’s classy desired fashion forward looks, through custom clothing, that made them feel beautiful, no matter what shape or size they were, boosting their confidence.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love creating custom pieces for women. The art of getting to know a woman and her story individually, then applying that knowledge to what I create is all part of the experience. Having a personal connection with a woman and understanding her strengths and insecurities are part of things I hold dear and value as a designer. In the beginning, I went on faith and prayers alone but realized I needed more to better equip me as a professional in the industry. I decided to go back to college in 2017, about a year after completing my Bachelor’s in Business from A&M Commerce, to learn more about fashion, the tricks of the trade, build my network and be able to grow as an individual. It was not easy pursuing two degrees in Fashion Design and Pattern Design, in less that 2years (usual time to complete those programs concurrently), while also going through a tough divorce. I’m thankful for my family, my college fashion cluster, and select friends that supported me through that rough patch. I’ve learned that life can be tough but so am I, and I’m better for it. I want to let the world know that no matter the circumstance you are facing, pushing forward to pursue your dreams and future success will be so worth the struggle. Giving up is not an option and I also learned to tell myself no is just an opportunity to be introduced to what’s best for you! As an emerging designer, I want to expand my brand into evening wear, special occasion and red carpet custom made women’s clothing in the near future.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I absolutely love the Dallas Museum of Art. There are so many interesting pieces of art and history that are quite intriguing. I’m a foodie so I’d definitely take my best friend to a lot of restaurants but especially Eddie V’s and Fogo De’ Chao. Then we’d have to make a stop at North Park Mall to catch a good movie, a good exercise with plenty walking around and shopping of course. Then, last stop would be a day spa with some good massages and pampering.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Leah Frazier!! Before I even thought about launching my brand publicly, I started researching different people in the industry and came across this attorney turned fashion blogger (at the time) who was also an influencer. I reached out and she responded. Very welcoming, knowledgeable, encouraging and supportive. Her drive and pursuit of her dreams in the fashion world sparked a bigger flame in me. She has been in the background cheering me on and offering her help and advice and of course many success stories over the years to support me. Leading by example and pouring into others is definitely her forte, and I would like to publicly say thank you!
