We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris D. Bentley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris D., we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’m an entrepreneur at heart. In fact, I hate working a job. The thought of someone telling me what to do and what time I must do it is horrifying to me. It’s probably why I was so terrible at school. School and having a job only fueled me more to start my own company later in life. One rule I have at my brokerage is, “Do not call me your Boss!” I honestly wasn’t excited about becoming a Broker and having to deal with the headaches involved with the day-to-day operations of running a successful business along with my own clientele. People tend to forget that, as a business owner, there is no one to blame when something goes wrong or if one of your Agents screws up because at the end of the day, it’s all on you. As the leader of the company, you must, “Steer the ship” as they say. You must make decisions that not only impact you but also everyone else at the company. It’s a daily grind of navigating through these decisions to make sure you’re putting everyone in the best position possible to succeed while making sure the company stays the course. When I finally decided to build the Brokerage, I wanted to do everything the opposite of what my competition was doing and that still holds true today. That was the biggest factor for me to start the company. I wanted to show not only myself but everyone else that we could build something unique and different. Something that you’re happy to be a part of. Not because it pays well but because you care about the success of the person next to you as much as you care about the success of yourself. I love my agents and there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for them.
What should our readers know about your business?
Bentley Fine Properties is a residential real estate brokerage based in Plano. We specialize in helping people relocate to the Dallas, Texas area. At Bentley Fine Properties, we put a greater emphasis on leveraging social media to enhance communication, acquire new business, and get more deals done. We aim to exceed client expectations.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would have to start with food of course! And nothing says, “Welcome to Texas!” more than some smoked brisket and chicken from Hard Eight BBQ, Oak’D BBQ, or Hutchins BBQ. I like to stay north of Dallas, so Legacy West and The Star would be the hang out spots. Concrete Cowboy, Dee Lincoln Prime, Haywire, and Del Frisco’s Double Eagle are my favorites. Of course, we cannot miss the people watching on McKinney Ave in Uptown. Especially, Moxies, The Ritz-Carlton, and Hotel ZaZa.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Too many people to thank honestly. To name a few, Brent Atwood, Rogers Healy, Ryan Stewman, Douglas Eze, and Charles Pettit. I also want to include Gary Vaynerchuk, Steve Harvey, and David Goggins for producing the YouTube videos that I watch over and over again to stay motivated and hungry.
