We had the good fortune of connecting with Chisa Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chisa, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
Purpose. I remember being in my early 20’s and being asked, “what’s your purpose in life?” In my head, my response was… “My what?!?! I have no clue!” And the fact that I didn’t have a solid answer made me feel insignificant. It made me feel Ike I was supposed to have an answer. At the time, I was living life! I was having fun and exploring multiple opportunities and experiences. Had NEVER considered my life’s purpose. There was still so much that I had never been exposed to. How could I possibly know? I JUST left my parents house. I JUST graduated. The advice I will give my son (almost 25 years later) would be, “Stop trying to find your purpose. Just keep following your curiosity, and your purpose will find you.”

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our approach is inspired by the tribes in Northern Natal in South Africa. It is there that the spirit of Ubunu lives. When these tribes greet each other, instead of our customary “hello” they say “sawa bona.” This translates to “I see you,” to which another replies “sikhona,” meaning “I am here.” What we take away from the Zulu in Northern Natal is the immense impact we can have on others by simply acknowledging their presence.
At Chisa Marie Consulting, we emphasize the responsibility we have for treating others with dignity and respect. We recognize and celebrate the impact we can have when we are willing to bring each other into existence. Founded on the spirit of Ubuntu, we strive to see the humanness in others, bringing forth the realization we are so much more alike than we are different.

Nothing is easy about being a business owner, wife, mom… all the things. Lots of sacrifices have been made over the years but it’s all been worth it. I become better for my family with each and every heart we get to touch along these educational journeys.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people. My coach/mentor (Michael Nila) who taught me to educate vs teach. He encouraged me to ask questions rather than tell. Listen more that I speak. My parents who provided me with a solid foundation to build upon and who have always supported me. My husband who taught me to love and trust a man fully. My sons who full me up with a love that is stifling, and amazing and unlike any other kind of love. This work that I do is in honor of them all, the past, the present and the future.
