We had the good fortune of connecting with Chastity Hylton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chastity, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks are… risky. I’m an overthinker and I analyze things from all angles before I make a decision or take a risk. When it’s time to act, I’m comfortable and committed to my risk or decision because I’ve done my “homework”. I like to think of risks as calculated, sometimes impulsive moves. At the end of the day, taking risks is how I’ve managed to balance a full-time career and two thriving businesses.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a full-time police officer, a part-time realtor, and a makeup artist when needed. A typical week for me includes policing M-F, getting off work to go show property to clients, and perhaps doing makeup on weekends or more real estate related activities (touring model homes, showing properties, writing offers, etc.).
What sets me apart is that all of my careers and businesses serve my community. I get to provide a direct service to community members and consumers. Whether it’s keeping a family safe, helping one to achieve the American dream of homeownership, or simply making a woman feel beautiful with makeup, their needs are put before mine and that’s what makes my life so gratifying.
I got to this point in my professional and personal life with God’s grace and protection, my grandparent’s prayers, and hard work. It was not easy at all, whew. I overcame the challenges by getting out of my own head, putting in the work, blocking out the distractions, and prayer…lots of it.
I want the world to know that my story is personal and relatable. I pray my story helps someone along the way. My brand (Hylton Homes Realty, LLC) is black owned, family owned, and family operated. I’ve found that that is important to some consumers and myself as well.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Deep Ellum! The Museum of Illusions or Perot Museum! Dance class at Fenton’s or The Art of Motion! Klyde Warren Park! The places are endless! The day would start off with brunch (mimosas of course), and we’d spend almost 2-3 hours simply catching up and enjoying each other’s company. Then we’d go shopping at Northpark Mall to get our steps in for the day. After this, it’d be time for us to take a nap honestly speaking. Now it’s time for happy hour and dinner. Luckily, my best friend and I share the same love for Mexican food, with our go to restaurant being Gloria’s (:
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I’d like to shoutout God. Without Him I am nothing! It is because of Him I am able to share my gifts/talents with my community. Second, I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my parents. They instilled in me from an early age to work hard, serve your community, and love others.
