We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlie Castro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charlie, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want people to remember me for my designs and the impact I’ve done for the clothing industry, regardless if it’s a good or bad impact.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think there’s a trend when it comes to recent clothing brands, they’re all kind of copies of one another or they follow a certain design style and I try to bring something different to the table, seeing brands like that make me want to always make something either more controversial, more unique, just something different. That’s not only my motivation to keep making these designs I also genuinely enjoy making them and putting something different out there that isn’t so basic.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For activities I’d definitely take them to this local Curiosities and oddities spot, I love all the skulls and wet specimens they have, there’s always something new to look at there and it’s never boring. Whenever we get hungry I’d take them to my favorite Japanese restaurant Ramen Hakata they have the best rice bowls, ramen, and sushi there, lastly somewhere to just talk and drink something would probably be Boba Haven, best boba in town and it’s simple and good.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out the people supporting me on my journey to create my clothing, my good friend Edgar, another good friend Alondra, the whole Meatlocker crew, and CS!
