We had the good fortune of connecting with Charis Walls and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charis, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
As a fairly new flight attendant, which might I add has been my dream career for the longest, being around so many different personalities, scenarios and situations, there’s a lesson learned always. Personally, I’ve learned to always have patience with each and every person that you encounter. In life, you don’t know what people are dealing with, whether it’s personally or professionally. If you can, go into everything with a positive attitude and a smile on your face, because you never know who might need that positivity and you never know who you’re talking to. First impressions are everything!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always seen myself as a “people person”, the social butterfly of the group. My family would say the same thing. When I was younger I loved to perform and be seen. I just couldn’t help it – I loved it! That’s where my creativity came into play, very early. Every job or career I’ve had, I interacted face to face with people. I made sure I was a part of whatever journey they were on – customer service was and is still my niche (retail, hospitality/apartment management) I’ve done it all! It brighten joy to leave a lasting, positive, impression on people. Whether it was finding them that perfect outfit or handing them their keys to their new home. You were going to remember me, trust!

It wasn’t easy getting to where I am now, living my dream. I dealt with unhappy residents, evictions, community problems, and customers that just didn’t like me. I’ve had a couple of doors slam in my face, gotten many emails stating “we regret to inform you”, but I never let it get me all the way down, I just knew that opportunity wasn’t meant for me. I just stayed optimistic and served in the position that I was in. Made the most of every moment. There were tears, there were times of confusion where I asked “what am I doing wrong?”

Everything changed within this last year, I’ve told this story many times to many people who found themselves lost as to why they didn’t get “that” job, the one they really wanted. In the past, I was practicing, rehearsing my answers, for my interviews to be a flight attendant. That wasn’t working. When I discovered that being my authentic self was all it took, my interview didn’t seem like an interview. It was just a lovely conversation with two people. I just dazzled them with my personality, my unique realness, my positivity and that is what got me where I am today!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wow. This is so tough and a week is a long time to entertain my best friend! I was born and raised in Dallas, so there’s so many places to choose from!

To start the week off, there’s a great Mexican restaurant called Joe Leo, located in Dallas. They have happy hour everyday, even on the weekends, from 3pm – 6pm, which includes $5 margaritas and select bites. It’s super festive and bright inside and the patio is huge! I recommend the taco salad, it was really good!

On Tuesdays, a lot of movie theaters offer discounted movie tickets between $6-$7. I love going to the movies, especially for a scary movie. And now, majority of movie theaters are full service – food and drink. A couple that come to mind are Alamo Drafthouse, Cinepolis & Cinemark locations.

On Wednesday, or should I say Wine Down Wednesday, there are a couple of establishments to check out, but one in particular that I love is Felix Culpa. From 7pm – 11pm, you can mix and mingle with young professionals, the DJ is awesome, valet is complimentary, wine specials, the vibes are chill and fun.

Realistically, I’m at work during the day lol, but if I were to get home early from a trip, and America’s Team was playing, we could snatch some Party Passes to the game at AT&T Stadium. Yes, it’s standing room only, but to be in that monstrosity of a stadium is an amazing experience. The energy is on 1000! If the passes are sold out, we could head over to Texas Live, which is next door, where there’s multiple restaurants, lots of rowdy football fans, jumbo TV’s everywhere and have a great time!

Happy Friday, it’s the weekend! Let’s get cute, put on a flirty heel and head to Frisco to one of the cutest speakeasy’s, Rare Books. Just pick up the red phone and the secret door opens. Great for dinner, after dinner drinks and deliciously sweet desserts. I remember loving the music playlist as well. Once we finish there, we can keep the party going at The Parlour, a very grown and sexy lounge, great bartenders, the bar area is super swank and cute.

Saturday, let’s wake up and walk a couple miles at Katy Trail. Hopefully the weather is nice. It doesn’t even feel like you’re in Dallas. The trail is always packed with people, their dogs, just get out and get some fresh air. After putting in some work on the trail, we could treat ourselves and cheers to an active morning, head to LaLa Land. I heard their avocado toast is delish and I love their LaLa Latte. One of my faves! Later that night, let’s get into something chill, put on our cute walking shoes and head to Legacy Hall, the food hall at Legacy West in Plano. So many different things to choose from. Doesn’t even feel like you’re in Plano.

Sunday Funday, one of my favorite days – let’s brunch! I’ll make a reservation at Common Table at The Star in Frisco, (home of the Dallas Cowboys) for their Hip Hip Brunch. There’s inside seating, bar included and outside patio seating. The DJ plays non-stop hits, you walk in and it’s a party. All day, I’m sure you’ll see someone you know. Let’s get the mimosa tower OR the Common Table Punch tower. Hungry?! I like the blackened chicken and grits!

Listen, after a week like this…I’m going to need a week to recuperate lol

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Not only do I owe my successes – past, present and future – to my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, but my Village is so amazing and they know exactly who they are. They encourage and lift me up on a daily. My parents have always supported me in everything that I’ve shown a passion for, whether I failed or succeeded. I recall earlier this year, I asked my mom, “Do I make you proud?” and she responded enthusiastically “Yes!” She always tells me “everything that you prayed for, you got!” That inspires me to keep on doing what I’m doing, accomplishing more and more.
