We had the good fortune of connecting with Chantelle Harmon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chantelle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Becoming a Realtor ® was always a part of my plan, i just wasn’t aware of how far that plan would go. I planned on being a Realtor ® as a part time job because of the flexibility and possible high income I was seeking at the time while also doing what I love – searching and looking at various properties. My dad, sister, and I use to drive down the streets of Beverly Hills, Ladera Heights, and various other high end neighborhoods and pick out our favorite homes while I was growing up in Los Angeles. I believe because of that hobby as a child and amongst other things, I was able to purchase my first condo at 21 years old in Inglewood, CA. That property served as rental income as I explored different parts of the U.S. seeking my next home. I found that sense of home in Spring of 2018 when I moved to North Dallas. Dallas is special. With so many pockets of different neighborhoods and housing opportunities, I wanted to help others who loved Dallas to also find their home. In order to do that I needed to learn, study, and pass the real estate exams – which I successfully accomplished and continue to learn new skills to sharpen my expertise.
Starting my own business as a Realtor ® has really been an unexpected challenge. I never had to hustle for a paycheck – I was use to the biweekly direct deposit that use to hit my bank account. Now I am striking up conversations with strangers, passing out business cards, door knocking, and introducing myself as, ” Hi, I’m Chantelle, I’m a Realtor ®. ” Everyday, every outing, and every conversation is an opportunity to network and find your next client. Keeping that mindset has allowed me to become successful in my first few years of real estate. Every day I am still learning to perfect my craft and am loving the journey thus far!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am proud to say that in my two years of real estate I was able to close 6 properties. Traditionally a new Realtor ® rarely sells more than 2-4 homes in their first couple of years and for me to exceed that amount it lit a fire deep within that keep pushing me into getting the next listing or finding my next buyers. Majority of my clients have all been from referrals. Great customer service and communication are HUGE to me and is what my business is truly built on. I always want to make my clients feel comfortable and knowledgeable about their decision making process when selling or buying their home. I do my best to provide excellent professional service to my clients and at times it’s not the easiest – you can meet very demanding and even demeaning people, but I’ve been blessed with a high dose of patience and the ability to speak to people on different levels to convey my point and purpose.
I’ve learned that not every client is a good client and some people aren’t worth your time and energy but majority of my clients have become friends who I speak to personally often – that I am grateful for.
If I could tell the world about my business – I would tell them that my business is built on hard work, integrity, and a passion that I would love to show to everyone in DFW.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My top 2 favorite restaurants are Mi Cocina (shout out to the lounge portion in the one off the Dallas North Tollway on Frankford) and Hudson House in Addison. Both restaurants are straight to the point good food and drinks.
I love shopping and getting lost at North Park Mall. I swear they have over 500 stores – that place is huge!
Another thing I love about Dallas is how many parks and random lakes/bodies of water we have here. I love walking around White Rock Lake. I’ve been paddle boarding there, it’s always such a peaceful place to take in nature.
Of course paying our respect to the Cowboys and visiting The Star or catching a game is even better!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband is my biggest supporter and cheerleader. Mike is always encouraging me to put my best foot forward and to stop making excuses and try. He is that voice in my head when I feel like giving up – I hear him encouraging me every time.
