We had the good fortune of connecting with Chandi Rae and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chandi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business was making sure my business would be a long term solution to my clients problems. I wanted my business to exemplify that I was giving a service rather than selling you something. I knew I had to be passionate about it and it had to align with my purpose.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Licensed Managing Cosmetologist and I’ve been in the beauty industry for over 20 years now. I believe the thing that sets me a part is that I’ve always known hair was just the tool God used to bring me into the fullness of my purpose. I could always style and care for the hair, keep up with the trends and all but it wasn’t about that for me. I was fulfilled from the conversations I had with women sitting in my chair. I was looking to impact on a deeper level than a hairstyle, I wanted to boost my clients confidence from an authentic place.. it was about changing the subconscious negative beliefs and helping them re-write a new belief system about their self- worth and value beyond the surface. I am most proud that I’ve been able to flip my skills from growing and relaxing hair to growing a women’s healing retreat company called Vanish Board™️ Healing & Wellness Retreaats where I help shift mindsets and incorporate healing practices in beautiful places all over the world. That’s what I’m most excited about. Working behind the chair and learning about the lives of women prompted me to create a conference that allows them to tell their stories in a safe place with other likeminded women. This is another entrepreneurial venture that pushed me beyond the salon. The conference is called Tell Your Story. I’ve been blessed to be coming up on my 5th one. I’ve been fortunate to do my retreats and conferences in Sedona,Arizona, Jamaica, Switzerland, France, Portugal & Costa Rica are my last retreats for this year.

I’ve gotten this far today because I believe in jumping off cliffs! I am the biggest risk taker I know lol! It took a lot of self talk because people thought I was crazy to think I could do what I do with no college education. Life experience has been education enough. Lessons I’ve learned is never let someone tell you to focus on one thing at a time. Though I think it’s logical and great advice, some are meant to be master jugglers. I want people to know that I was never given the opportunities I desired because I didn’t have the accolades “they” said I needed. I want people to know My story is one of reselience and I created the opportunities I desired for myself. Never wait for anyone to invite you to the places you want to be, instead take your power back and write your own story. Then invite them to your world!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve only been here for a year but I love Legacy West, Live Music at Freeman’s in Deep Ellum, Toulouse Restaurant, The Star, Music Factory, Cigar International, Fine dinning etc . I’m still looking for a place where I can hit the dance floor all night! I love skating so I gotta find a rink to rollout at!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out my Amazing Mother, my bestest friend in the whole wide world! I call her my PJ but you can call her Mrs. Pamela Jean. I want to thank you for being a constant presence in my life and being the epitome of the term “Anything is possible” you have inspired me to show the world that life transformations can happen instantaneously! You are my Shero and I love you so much.
