We had the good fortune of connecting with Chaiti Chatterjee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chaiti, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Honesty is the key factor behind my success. I am straight forward, I don’t make false promises or create false impressions. For example when customers inquire about the purity of a silk fabric, if it is not pure I don’t hesitate to let them know that. On the other hand there are many businesses in the market I know who are selling artificial silk fabric as pure one. So customers easily recognize me as an honest business owner and the trust starts building. The more they trust me the more businesses I get from them.

What should our readers know about your business?
Saree Mahal USA is a brand that sells Indian ethnic wear mostly. It is a brand that brings the best quality product at an affordable price into the market. We collect our products directly from the weavers of India and we keep a nominal profit so that our clients can get the best possible price in the market. Our premium quality clothes, most affordable price, longer working hours and 24/7 online customer support set us apart from others.
But doing this wasn’t easy at all. I am from a corporate background. I learned how to manage a business in my corporate days. But founding my own start up and handling it single handedly in those initial days were not so easy. With my friendly and honest behavior, hard work , competitive price and maintaining best quality I kept attracting new clients and that led me to where I am today.
What I learned from this journey is honesty is the best policy and there is no shortcut to the success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend and I both like to stay home mostly. So we would like to spend time at my place. But I will bring her to Frisco and Dallas for shopping and dinner. She has young kids so may be one of the days we will visit Dinosaur Valley State Park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family deserves all the credit. Without them I couldn’t run this business. My mom, who is 75 , handles all the hassles to export all the clothing from overseas. My husband and my two little kids (7 and 10) do their best to help me with the business.
