We had the good fortune of connecting with Chace Rains and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chace, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Well, this is an area of my life that has changed enormously over the course of my careers. As a young pleb, I threw myself into my work with abandon. I am a dead-center Capricorn with severe ADHD, so the theme of my entire life has been “Overcommitted and Under the Gun”…which means I left little time for personal development that didn’t involve unsustainable habits and disassociation. Gaining the experience that only age and children can bring, I have been taught that I DO, in fact, have limits and need to respect them. Now, I have moved away from full-time employment for someone else and into employment for myself. It allows me the freedom to be the Dad I was born to be while satisfying my unyielding need to be busier than anyone else. I think that people with ADHD will always struggle to find balance in anything, given our impulsiveness, but we all need to remember that we aren’t born to work. Our life of servitude is to ourselves and fellow man, not corporation or profit.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Creating anything can be tough. I am blessed that I am able to be vulnerable and allow my art to create itself organically. I believe that my drive and natural ‘rizz set me apart initially, but my music and performance draws others to me exponentially. Life is turmoil, life is struggle, and nothing worth having is easy to obtain. I have spent my life honing my performance, and attempting to connect with the songs themselves. Sometimes, your audience doesn’t understand the connection you’re making, but to the creator that’s not always important. It’s the expression that counts.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Stockyards are a must-see, as well as the new Meow Wolf installation. You HAVE to eat at Houston’s, and you HAVE to eat at 1 random taco truck.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give it up to 13th Floor Entertainment out of Dallas. After running across them in my music life, I took an interest in their operations. That research inspired me to create a new organization to help struggling musicians across my region, the Greater East Texas Musician’s Fund. Our organization aims to advocate and directly support independent musicians who are trying to be recognized as professionals, as well as established musicians who need the support of a full team but lack the means or access to bring them together. We are currently in the set-up phase, but will be soft-launching memberships in January of 2025. We plan to curate ticketed events throughout the region so that artists can accrue reportable ticket sale numbers, as well as subsidize things like consumables and child care. Long-term, we hope to include a Health Care subsidy package for members as well. East Texas is wealthy with untapped talent, and we aim to turn the volume up to 11.
