Hi Cecelia, how do you think about risk?
I think taking risk is very important especially when your going after your goals. It’s so easy to stay in a zone where your comfortable but if you don’t take any risk then you will never know your potential. In my line of work taking risk has gotten me to where i am now. I went to school to do woman’s hair and by taking the leap of faith i learned to cut men’s hair. Taking a risk showed me i can fade any kind of hair to even braiding! I’ve surprised my own self by taking the risk and getting my own suite and all the moves i made where uncomfortable but also so rewarding. Shows me there is nothing i can’t accomplish if i set my mind to it!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a barber/stylist. I went to school to do woman’s hair and ended up in a barbershop! I currently going to barber school so i can become dual licensed. I add a little flare to barbering because i have the background of being a cosmetologist so i’m comfortable with using my shears and i also braid and do waxing services. I’ve came a long way from sweeping in the barbershop to running around getting the barbers lunch to finally getting my own suite. I would never have imagined that i would be where i am at now. When i went to hair school my biggest fear was doing short hair and that’s now what i do for a living! Having faith and trying new things has shown me i have the ability to do anything i set my mind to! It was been a long journey to working long hours staying away from my girls and still having to go home and be a mom to now having my own schedule and getting to be at all my daughters games and practices. There would be days i would go home and cry from being torn between being a stay at home mom to expanding my business. Being a barber can be demanding and then being a mom it was hard to find a balance at first cause it everyone needed me but at the end of the day when i get messages from customers telling me how good they feel with their cuts and my girls kissing me and telling me they love me it’s all so worth it! I’m all about love and positive vibes so i love that my job allows to give a piece of me while my customers sit in my chair.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a pretty laid back person but first we will probably go to my daughters soccer game. That’s what i spend most of my days doing. To the Coyote drive in. I love watching movies and relaxing. Painting with a twist. Walking around downtown Fort Worth and seeing what calls us in. Eat some tacos of course at Frezko’s.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First i want to shoutout my mom and dad cause without them none of this would be possible! They have always believed in me and had my back through it all. I want to thank my first boss as a barber Angie! She held me under her wing and showed me the art of cutting hair! She pushed me and gave me the confidence knowing i always had her to fall back on! To all the barbers i worked with from showing me tips and tricks and listening to my nonsense everyday. To my friends and customers for always being my hype men! I honestly wouldn’t be here without all my customers. I want to thank my girls dad cause if it wasn’t for him i wouldn’t of even been a barber, and lastly my daughters because they are my fuel and motivation to get through everyday!
