We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassie Jacobs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cassie, what principle do you value most?
As someone who has spent a lot of my life feeling like I didn’t fit in, authenticity is really important to me. I believe that it’s important to be true to yourself, even when it’s hard or when you’re in an environment that doesn’t necessarily support who you are. Being authentic means accepting yourself for who you are, flaws and all, and being willing to show that to others.
In my businesses, I try to be as authentic as possible with my customers. I want people to feel like they can connect with me and my brand on a real level, so I’m open and honest about who I am and what I stand for. This has been really important in building relationships with my customers and creating a community around my businesses.
In my personal life, being authentic has meant accepting my neurodivergence and being willing to embrace my differences instead of trying to hide them. It’s not always easy, but it’s been really freeing to be able to be myself, without worrying about how others will perceive me
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In terms of my art, I’m definitely not a classically trained artist. I’m a graphic designer by trade, and I never really considered myself an artist until I started Salem Supply Co. I started hand drawing a lot of the artwork that I use on my products, and I was really nervous about it at first. My personal art style isn’t super refined, and it’s more of a fun, doodle-like style. But to my surprise, my customers have really responded to it. I think what sets me apart is that my art is personal and unique, and it’s infused with my own energy and intentions.
I’m most proud of how my brand has grown and how it’s been embraced by the witchy community. When I started Salem Supply Co., I had no idea how much support and love I would get for my products and my art. It’s been really amazing to see people connect with my work and to hear how it’s helped them in their spiritual practices.
Getting to where I am today professionally definitely wasn’t easy. It’s taken a lot of hard work, dedication, and sacrifice to build my business while also running a marketing company with my husband and raising three kids. One of the biggest challenges has been trusting myself and my art, and not second guessing or doubting myself. It’s hard to put your art out there and be vulnerable, especially when you’ve spent a lot of your life masking and trying to fit in. But I’ve learned that being authentic and true to myself is the most important thing, and that’s what sets me apart from others.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is the importance of community and connection. Building relationships with my customers and with other people in the witchy community has been so important in growing my business and finding support along the way.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that it’s all about authenticity and quality. I put a lot of love and intention into everything I make, and I want my customers to feel that when they use my products. I also want people to know that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams and passions. Even if it takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice, it’s worth it to do what you love and to be true to yourself.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As someone who grew up south of the metroplex and has spent more time in the Fort Worth area than in Dallas proper, most of my suggestions for where to go and what to do revolve around things that are outside of Dallas.
In Waco, we would start with a stop at Czech Stop in West, which is a must for their delicious kolaches. We would then spend the afternoon at the Mayborn Museum at Baylor, which offers an interesting look into the history and culture of Texas. If we had time, we would also visit the Cameron Park Zoo and enjoy some food at Union Hall.
In Southside Fort Worth, we would start with a mocha at Avoca on West Magnolia Avenue, which is one of my favorite coffee shops in the area. We would then have lunch at Spiral Diner and spend some time walking around and exploring the neighborhood, which has a great energy and plenty of unique shops and attractions.
If we headed south of the metroplex, we would grab lunch at Buffalo Creek BBQ in Cleburne before heading to Glen Rose to spend the day relaxing by the Paluxy River. There’s a secluded back road with river access that is my preferred spot, and we would end the day with a fried pie from The Fried Pie Shoppe.
No trip to the area would be complete without a dinner trip to Joe T. Garcias. We would also spend some time at the beautiful Japanese Garden, browse the shelves at Recycled Books, and have lunch at HG Supply Co. If we were lucky enough to be visiting on a weekend that the Every Witch Way Denton market was running, we would definitely head up to Denton to check out all the amazing artisans and their unique and handmade items.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely. I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, my mom, my in-laws, and Kelly-Ann Maddox.
My husband has been my rock throughout the entire process of starting and running Salem Supply Co. He believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself, and he has been there every step of the way. Without his initial and continued support, I never would have been able to make my dream a reality.
My mom and in-laws have also been incredibly supportive, helping with our kids when we travel for shows and just generally being there for us. They’ve all made sacrifices to help us pursue our dreams, and I’m so grateful for that.
Finally, I want to give a shoutout to KAM. Her videos on YouTube have been absolutely integral in forming my practice and my beliefs around witchcraft. Her wisdom and guidance have been invaluable, and I’m so grateful to have found her.
So, to my husband, my mom, my in-laws, and Kelly Ann: thank you all so much for your support, mentorship, love, and encouragement. I couldn’t have gotten where I am today without you.
