Meet Carolyn Morris | Mediator & Advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carolyn Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carolyn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My son had a disability that cannot be seen. When I saw parents struggle with their children in education, I saw the need to educate parents by advocating for their rights in the educational setting.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a civil rights leader and founder of the City of Lancaster NAACP National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and School Board of Trustees, I was the first African-American elected by my community, a mediator for families and civil court and family court, and an advocate for children and parents with disabilities, Education: Paralegal, and Psychology,
How did I overcome the challenges? Educating myself, staying focused, and my faith in God.
Was it easy? Having a strong commitment to be a servant to others.
The lesson I learned: Our country is broken and I am only a spot that could be barely seen. As a citizen of the United States, we must acknowledge a strong education has to include individuals with disabilities. Along with individuals who are economically disadvantaged in the system we live in I cannot leave out senior citizens..

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a quiet person, one of the first things I would consider with a friend is to go shopping. That would include the Galleria and North Park Mall, a wonderful lunch or dinner at Pappadeaux’s, the cheesecake factory, and my church. The opportunity to attend a school board meeting if the visit includes the day that we meet they are open to the public.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My son Marcus D. Davenport, and my wonderful daughters. Dr. Ketra Davenport-King and Nina L. Morris for their support as I travel this journey. Parents with children with disabilities in education to continue to learn how to be strong advocates to ensure a successful outcome.
