We had the good fortune of connecting with Cameron Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cameron, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want my charitable works and giving nature to be my legacy. I believe my love for giving back and wanting to help others is what truly makes me, me, and that is what I would like to be remembered for. Acting out of the kindness of my heart and expecting nothing in return is what I believe everyone should value and I show this through my everyday actions. Also, I would like for my clothing brand to be remembered for more than just looking good. There are core values I instilled in my brand when I first began planning and those were love, strength, confidence, positivity, and relatability. Those values are what help me create and design and are apart of my legacy as well.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my authenticity my willingness to be different by taking a more subtle approach, paying attention to the key details of my life that I incorporate into my art. I’m most proud of my journey to where I am today, it’s never easy battling insecurities but I’ve had great mentors throughout my life that have taught me many lessons. This journey to stardom was not and still isn’t easy but I have a great support system that keeps me motivated. I had to learn to trust my creative process and vision and to stick to my lane because even though many others are doing what I’m doing we can all coexist and achieve our goals and do what we love

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start the week off with a tour of the city showing them all of the wonderful sites Dallas has to offer. Then I would take them on the JFK Assassination Museum tour to learn some history about one of the most tragic events in presidential history, after that We will visit the Sea Life Aquarium to view some beautiful sea creatures. Next, I would take them to the Dallas Museum Of Art, when we finally get hungry I will take them to my favorite restaurants Jimmy big burgers for some of the best burgers or Pluckers to grab some of the best wings in my opinion and to end a great week We will go to Six Flags Over Texas.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to first shoutout my friends and family for encouraging me to chase my dreams and to pursue my many passions secondly I would like to shoutout my mentor Xanté Wallace for giving me a chance at a leadership role my freshman year of college that ultimately taught me to have the confidence to stand up for what I believe in and to be the change I wanted to see and lastly I would like to shout the Collegiate Black Male Retreat for helping me start my healing process and to let go of my past and use it as a stepping stone towards my future which has helped me with creating some of the core values for my clothing brand
