We had the good fortune of connecting with Brydric Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brydric, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
To say that college was a busy time of my life would be an understatement. Working three jobs while going to school and maintaining a social life were the highlights of my early twenties. During this time, you can imagine money was tight and my schedule was full, so trying to shop for clothes was not always an option. I thought to myself, where can I find clothes that fit me well and can carry me from day to night. I needed clothes that were easy to move in, yet still polished and casual. With that need in mind, I created my brand of high-end ready-to-wear garments for men and women.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets you apart from others? Fashion design is like breathing; my creativity is a continuous flow of ideas, giving life to my designs. What sets me apart from others is the injection of my southern, bohemian aesthetic. I also love creating harmony with prints and colors. Those special elements create the brand’s DNA that separates me from others. What you are most proud of or excited about? During the pandemic last year I made over 50 masks that were mailed out to family and friends. Knowing that I was able to use my talents beyond fashion was a very proud moment for Five Eleven Collection. How did you get to where you are today professionally? By producing seasonal collections and designing custom garments for clients, I have been able to elevate my brand and open doors to new resources. With my credentials in place, I now have a reliable customer base and am often sought out by show producers and stylists. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? No, it was not easy. In the beginning, the most common challenges were execution, specifically fit/precision, and generating income. With thorough research and determination, I was able to refine my skills and provide figures that were approachable for my client demographic. What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way? Liberate your mind, experience life, and continue to grow in every way as an individual. In short, Be Free, Be Adventurous, Be Reborn! What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story? When designing, I create a vision with you in mind. Ensuring that the garment highlights your body – leaving your mind in a confident state and your spirit renewed. Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are definitely starting with drinks at my place before we head to Cedar Springs to grab some tacos from my favorite spot, La Ventana. While we’re in the area, let’s bar hop from JR’s to Round-Up. Go swimming! Mediterranean is my favorite type of food, so let’s go to Baboush Dallas or Kebabs to Go! Try the chicken or lamb kebab and don’t forget the tezeki sauce. Sweettooth Hotel is a great art installation that invites you to learn about new local artists and take pictures for that Instagram-worthy shot! I’m not done yet, if you love cider and nostalgic arcade games, then you’ll enjoy Bishop Cidercade over on Irving Blvd. We have to get a Big Larry from Hopdoddy, then grab some amazing Chinese food from Sum Dang Good Chinese. If you still have room, head over to the SOIRÉE COFFEE BAR. If you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m a foodie. Aunt Irene’s is the place to go for some great seafood, I should know because she’s my actual aunt. She. Can. Throw. Down! Don’t believe me, grab that pasta plate and get yo life! I have to take you to my home town, Sulphur Springs to go fishing. Fishing is life, unplug and enjoy! You’ll also get some great family BBQ. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Several people deserve more than a thank you throughout my life. I have been fortunate to have a host of supportive friends and family members stand by my side. I specifically want to dedicate this shout-out to a few very special people in my life that have held me up through faith, love, and motivation. My mom, best friends Venny Etienne/Amber Ferrel, and my mentor/big sis LaWanda Brannon. Thank you for being a light, a voice, and a shield.
