Meet Bryan Compeau | Chandler / Perfumer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryan Compeau and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bryan, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I’ve always been really drawn to candles and fragrance—there’s just something about the way a scent can change the whole vibe of a space or bring back a memory. I never seriously considered turning that interest into a business until I had this chance meeting with a chandler. We started talking, and he ended up becoming a mentor to me. He really emphasized the importance of writing down every single detail—every pour temp, every fragrance ratio, every wick—and testing relentlessly. That level of discipline totally shaped how I approached things. I started making candles out of my kitchen while still working my full-time job. It began as a creative outlet, but once I saw how much people connected with the scents and the intention behind them, I knew I wanted to turn it into something more.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is all about creating intentional, handcrafted products that tell a story through scent. What sets us apart is the thought that goes into each fragrance. When I started, I created a few classic, familiar scents—the kind you might find in a big box store—but as the brand grew, so did the complexity of my scent profiles. I wanted to offer something people couldn’t just grab off any shelf. Now, my goal is to create layered, memorable fragrances that evoke emotion and feel truly unique.
I originally launched as just a candle company, but my customers started asking for more. They wanted room sprays, diffusers, lotions, soaps. and more. I’ve since been expanding and refining my formulas to create a more well-rounded brand, one that brings scent and self-care into more parts of people’s everyday lives.
It definitely hasn’t been easy. I started this business while working a full-time job, and there were a lot of long nights, a lot of testing, and honestly—a lot of trial and error. But that’s actually one of the things I’m most proud of. Every failure taught me something and brought me one step closer to creating products I’m genuinely proud to put my name on. Without those mistakes, I wouldn’t have been able to build the kind of quality and care into this brand that I hold myself to today.
What I want the world to know is that this brand was built with heart. It’s not just about candles or products—it’s about creating little moments of calm, joy, and connection through scent. Every item is made with intention, and I hope that comes through the second someone experiences it.”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d kick things off with some sushi at Oishii on Wycliff—it’s hands down one of my favorites. For Italian, I’d take them to Enoteca, and I’d also make sure we get a reservation at The Charles. It’s one of those restaurants that really captures the energy of Dallas. Of course, you can’t come here without some Tex-Mex, so Mi Cocina is a must. And I have to include Dunston’s—it’s such a Dallas institution. It has that old-school charm and classic steakhouse vibe that never goes out of style.
One of my favorite places to unwind is the Dallas Arboretum. It’s such a peaceful escape—beautiful gardens, lake views, and it feels like a little oasis in the middle of the city. A hidden gem I always recommend is the Dallas World Aquarium. It’s way more than just an aquarium—it’s immersive, full of surprises, and feels much bigger than it looks from the outside.
You also can’t forget a walk or bike ride on the Katy Trail. It’s one of those local staples—great people-watching & fresh air.
For drinks, we’d definitely have to hit Crown Block at Reunion Tower. The view is incredible, especially at sunset—it’s one of those iconic Dallas moments you just have to experience.
So yeah, a little nature, a little indulgence, some exploring, and a whole lot of great food—that’s my ideal Dallas week.”
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely—Jimmy, my mentor, 100%. He’s the one who really started me on this journey. That chance meeting with him completely changed the direction of my life. He took the time to walk me through the ins and outs of candle making—not just the basics, but the real behind-the-scenes stuff that makes all the difference. He taught me about things like wick testing, fragrance loads, pour temperatures—all the technical details that go into creating a high-quality candle. More than that, though, he encouraged me to take my time, be patient with the process, and trust my instincts. I honestly don’t think I’d be doing this today without his guidance and generosity.
