We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Caldwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am Brooke! 33 year old Mom of 2! I have been a hair stylist for 13 years, Salon owner for 11 years, and I have been competing in the body building industry for 5 years! I have 2 overall wins, and plan to jump on stage again next year! I became a certified online nutrition coach this year as well! My passions include helping women to look in the mirror and be happy with what they see! It started in the salon with hair…and I quickly noticed that a lot of my clients were so happy looking in the mirror with their new hair, until I took their cape off and then the attention flies to the full body mirror they’re sitting in front of and they immediately say they hate the mirror. Well my new goals as “The Fit Stylist” is to help you love everything you see in the mirror! From your hair, to your body! Wether it be losing weight, toning up, gaining muscle or maybe one day competing!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started off as a hair stylist and after 2 years achieved my dream of opening a hair salon! Over the next 11 years that dream has grown into 2 locations and an amazing ministry in our county. I have some of the best women in the business working in my Salons! Vogue Salon at Legacy Ranch and Vogue Salon Downtown! Both in Waxahachie Texas! I got into nutrition and fitness in 2017 and it quickly took over my conversations in the salon chair! Helping people and giving them motivation from my chair became such a daily routine I decided that I wanted to get certified so I could do more then just give little pieces of advice every few weeks when they came back. I truly wanted to be able to help women especially love themselves from the inside out. Keeping 2 salons afloat has not been easy. Especially during COVID. Our logo from day one with the salons was “Choose to be beautiful” and I love it because being beautiful is something you choose to do. You choose to be a good person, you choose to get up and motivate others, you choose to be sunshine or storms. You choose how you treat others. There is so much more to “being beautiful” then just being born that way. We all struggle with our own demons and I feel that finding a good relationship with your body and brain and heart is one of the biggest ways to have good relationships with others. Loving the body you’re in helps you to love others. So to me helping women love their hair, and their appearance and now the food they put into their body and the way they are learning to think positively about their own flesh helps them to be able to show others love and respect as well and know that everyone has their own battles. The hair world is not easy. So many stylists see the stylist across the road as competition and end up hating everyone. I’ve learned that their is enough business for everyone and I’ve learned that a lot of the issues we have in life including competing with other women in life in general can be pushed back to certain things in our own hearts and what I love about food is that it is what every cell in our body runs off of. So if you’re putting junk in your body then what is coming out? When you truly see what nutrition and loving your body and self enough to feed it good things and push it to be a better person can do then it changes things.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First of all a spa day at Vogue Salon! Duh! Shampoo and style! Anything else they wanted from our menus! Then we’d head over to my friends at T Nails where they spoil you with beautiful nails and pedicures! Lunch would of course be at Campuzanos Mexican food in town! The best margaritas around! We would probably do some shopping in downtown Waxahachie! All the boutiques and antique stores make for a fun afternoon! Blume is my favorite! My secret favorite place to go is to the Waxahachie foot spa where they massage your feet and full body! For dinner one of my favorite places is Downtown as well at Prime 115! Our town is full of fun little places! Of course my favorite place is the best little gym in town! It’s an anytime fitness but it is not a typical anytime! It’s big and open and has some of the coolest people that workout there!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When it comes to the gym and nutrition part of my life, I give most of my drive and love for it to one of my friends/mentors who passed away this past year. From the moment I got into body building and clean eating she was one of my first friends in the industry. IFBB PRO Stacey Cummings started out as my posing coach from day one and we became such good friends. She pushed me to push my limits, to go outside of my comfort zone and she was always there to cheer me on through everything in life. When I got my nutrition certificate she was one of my biggest fans and I ran so much by her. She passed away suddenly at a very young age and my last competition I did in honor of her and we took the overall win. She is truly missed in this world by so many people and her legacy lives on.
