We had the good fortune of connecting with Broderick Huckaby and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Broderick, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My previous business was a management company that help provided direction to emerging music artists in the DFW. In this field of business, there is a lot of money spent but not much return so you are definitely playing the long game. “Everybody eats but the artist” – This is what T-Brad, an artist from Arlington, informed me of early on in this business. The artist must pay for studio time, mixing and mastering, the beats, uploads on streaming sites, advertising, music videos, performance videos, photoshoots, etc.
Therefore, you attempt to cut expenses to save money – just like any other business. A couple years into the music management business I decided to pick up a camera. My wife had a Canon T3 Rebel camera that she didn’t use much, so with that, my iPhone and some simple video equipment, I decided to record my own artists’ videos and photoshoots.
I became a photographer as a need to save some money. I never considered myself a professional out of respect for those who took this craft very seriously. Until my Aunt Angie got me my first paid gig to do a photobooth for her church’s Christmas party. I was honored that she thought my work was good enough to be considered. Especially since she actually took courses in photography. At this point I had to take this seriously and turn this into a business.
The church Christmas party was successful but definitely a learning experience. At the event a policeman was near my photography area. He noticed some of my struggles and suggested a more efficient process. “Have you heard of a self-service photobooth?” Then he explained to me exactly what was. I was very much interested in this discovery. After the gig, I looked up the product. A couple of months later, I was able collect enough money to purchase my first self-service Photo Booth.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Huckcredible Shotz specializes in event photography, business photography and photobooth. Instead of having a strict structure of how moments are created, we prefer to catch you in the moment. “ Not just incredible shots but Huckcredible Shotz.”
After an event, did you realize you didn’t get enough pictures or no pictures at all? That’s where I come in! I have the most experience with event photography, specializing in capturing the whole event, from start to finish.
As an entrepreneur, you can wear many hats but it doesn’t mean you are the most efficient at everything. Huckcredible Shotz’ business photography service can schedule photo shoots to help build a visual portfolio for your business and utilize existing visuals for customized marketing purposes. Let me help you reach your desired audience. I have already created over a 1,000 posts for various businesses to help generate sales through social media posts. My company has partnered with Diggles Elite Cleaning, creating over 80% of their social media content over the past 3 years.
Do you want to add some extra fun to your next event? We have several photobooth options to enhance your event experience. You can choose from a Self-Service iPad Photo Booth, or a 360 Video Booth with an optional LED Enclosure backdrop. I continue to make additions to these services to customize customers needs and wants.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Dallas/Fort Worth Area is so big we would definitely need a week to get the full DFW experience. Everything revolves around the best restaurants throughout the whole metroplex. Monday: Arlington Lunch: Babe’s Chicken – This would be a perfect start with some good food at DFW founded restaurant. Afternoon: Tour of Cowboys Stadium Dinner: Pluckers (Arlington Highlands)
Tuesday: Fort Worth Lunch: Cesar Tacos https://www.fortworthmenu.com/cesars-tacos/ This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants and it’s near my old neighborhood, Highland Hills (Fort Worth).
Afternoon Activity: Since I am near by my old neighborhood, visit my dad as he tells us endless jokes and stories about what is going on in the hood. Dinner: Reata’s (Downtown Fort Worth) https://www.reata.net/ This restaurant is the definition of southern-style Texan Food. Chicken Fried steak bigger than the plate and Carne Asada topped with Reata’s Cheese Enchiladas. After dinner hang out: Scats Jazz Lounge, an Underground jazz lounge with great music and great drinks
Wednesday: Fort Worth Lunch: Smokeaholic BBQ (Best BBQ in DFW) https://www.smoke-a-holicsbbq.com/ Located on the Southside historical district of Fort Worth. They tend to sellout around 3 o’clock in the afternoon.
Afternoon: Trip to Fort Worth Botanical Gardens – A great place to walk around and burn calories before going to dinner. Great scenery. Dinner: Texas De Brazil One of my favorite places to eat. All you can eat meats!!!!
Thursday-Dallas Lunch: Rudy’s Chicken This place is more about the culture.
Dinner: Whataburger – You can’t visit Texas without eating at Whataburger
Friday- Dallas Lunch: Fuel City Taco (801 S Riverfront Blvd, Dallas, TX) This location is very important it is in a perfect location for people to learn a lot about the city. It is a convenient store that serves gas and has great tasting tacos. While waiting for your tacos, you will notice a petting zoo near by with a couple of horses and a very busy car wash. The location is near downtown and Oak Cliff. If you just sit for 5 mins, you will see many luxury vehicles, fixed up old school classic cars and tricked out trucks.
Afternoon Activity: Perot Museum of Nature and Science – One of the better and entertaining museums I have been to. Dinner: Del Friscos Double Eagle Steakhouse – One of the best steak restaurants in the city. After-dinner Activity: Bar hopping in Deep Ellum – Deep Ellum provides a lot of bars and live music. You are guaranteed to have a great time
Saturday- Mid Cities/ Fort Worth Breakfast: LoLo Chicken & Waffles – Some of the best chicken and waffles in the area. Activity: Grapevine Mills Mall – Great place to for shopping. Lunch: Pappadeaux. Part of Texas culture is cajun and I love my cajun food. Dinner: Eddie V’s – A very upscale restaurant with great food. After-dinner Activity: Bar Hopping on 7th Street.
Sunday Lunch: any daiquiri shop – This is a great place to be especially during football season. They typically serve great cajun food and great drinks to go.
Afternoon activity: Follow Haltom Theater on all social Media platforms because they tend to have the best music showcases in the city. In addition, the establishment provides affordable and great tasting drinks and food.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my Daughter. I could say what most people say “I do this for my kids and I’m trying to leave a legacy,” which is true but it’s more than that. In this entrepreneurial world you have different levels of support and unfortunately, the support is not going to be consistently coming from the people you think should be your top supporters like family and friends. One of my biggest supporters has always been my daughter. She always compliments me on my pictures and gives me quick inspiration when I’m in need. Yes, she is only 6 years old but she is very smart. She’s always aware of times when I need help and gives me her input. Kids have a way to simplify things that adults tend to complicate. In addition, she will go to gigs with me and work. She will demonstrate to others on how to use the self-service Photobooths and assist with setting up. So, she supports me physically, spiritually, and emotionally. Her support has helped me stay on my path to continue the business.
