Meet Brittney Solomon | Founder, Vara

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney Solomon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittney, is there something you believe many others might not?
Fake it till you make it” doesn’t resonate with me. I understand the intention behind it—building confidence, stepping into something bigger—but for me, authenticity is everything. I believe people can feel when something is real versus when it’s performative. Especially in a wellness brand, trust is everything. I didn’t want to pretend to be an expert or force a polished brand image before I was ready. I built VARA slowly, from my own experience, my healing, and the rituals that changed my life.
Rather than faking it, I chose to live it—to become the embodiment of what I want my brand to stand for. That means taking my time, being honest about what I know and what I’m learning, and letting the brand evolve from a place of real depth and alignment. I think we need more women building from that place—not performing success, but becoming it through alignment, truth, and trust in their own path.
What should our readers know about your business?
VARA began with a very personal journey—one rooted in healing. After over a decade of wearing extensions, I finally listened to what my Ayurvedic practitioner had been telling me for years: to remove them and start nourishing my hair from the inside out. During the pandemic, I began oiling my scalp with a formula I made using traditional Ayurvedic herbs like amla, bhringraj, brahmi, and hibiscus. The transformation was almost immediate—my hair became healthier, stronger, and more vibrant than I ever imagined possible. Friends started asking what I was using, and that’s when I knew this wasn’t just a ritual for me anymore—it was something I had to share.
VARA is a 100% natural Ayurvedic hair oil, but it’s more than that. It’s a return to self, to slowness, to the idea that our beauty is rooted in how we care for ourselves. We don’t use fillers, synthetic fragrance, or shortcuts—only herbs and oils that have been trusted for centuries. What sets us apart is our formula that combines four of the most revered herbs known to support hair strength and shine, Amla, Brahmi, Bhringraj, and Hibiscus, our deep respect for tradition, and the intentionality behind every detail.
Getting here hasn’t been easy. I’ve had to learn how to build a business from scratch—how to manage production, shipping, marketing, customer care—and do it all in a way that feels aligned with who I am. There have been moments of self-doubt, burnout, and fear of being seen (something I’m still working on), but each time I return to the “why” behind this brand: to help women feel confident in their natural beauty.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that there’s real power in staying true to your values, even when it feels like the slower path. I want the world to know that VARA isn’t about quick fixes—it’s about long-term nourishment and creating rituals that connect us to ourselves. I built this brand to be a reflection of that truth.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m always trying to get my New York friends to visit Dallas, and when they do, I have the perfect itinerary lined up to show them the best of the city—through my lens of wellness, creativity, and intentional living.
We’d start our mornings with a matcha from Le Bloom or The Meteor—both make it with Fronks, a clean, small-batch nut milk brand from Austin that I’m obsessed with. It makes all the difference in a good matcha. Then we’d head to Eve by Taylor or Forma Pilates for a grounding, feel-good workout. Moving my body first thing sets the tone for the day.
We’d take a peaceful walk around White Rock Lake or spend the morning at the Dallas Arboretum—it’s one of the most beautiful and calming places in the city. Afterward, we’d head to Alive and Well. The space is stunning, and it’s one of my favorite places to reset. Whether it’s HBOT, red light therapy, sauna, or cold plunge, they have it all—and they carry VARA, which makes it even more special to me.
One evening, we’d definitely do a sound bath at O2—it’s next level.
Lunch would be at Origin Kitchen—clean, nourishing, and delicious. It’s one of my longtime staples.
At some point, we’d pop into Simple Veda Apothecary. She makes the most intentional, herbal products rooted in Ayurveda. And if there’s time, I’d have them experience a Bliss Therapy session (Abhyanga + Shirodhara). It’s deeply calming and soul-nourishing.
We’d explore the Nasher Sculpture Center or Dallas Contemporary—both are inspiring, but Dallas Contemporary always leaves me creatively recharged.
Dinner one night would be at Written by the Seasons—seasonal, thoughtful, and incredibly grounding. Another night, Catch. I’ve always felt drawn to it, and after finding out the founder studies Kabbalah like I do, it all made sense. The energy of the space is just different.
And of course, no visit to Dallas is complete without good Mexican food. I’d take them to Muchacho in Preston Center—it’s casual, elevated, and always hits the spot.
We’d grab a juice or smoothie from The Gem (still the best I’ve found anywhere, even with all my travel), and stop by Burgundy’s Local. Even if my friends don’t eat meat or eggs, I’d want them to see it. Everything is grass-fed and intentionally sourced—from the bone broth and eggs to the beef tallow products I’m obsessed with. I haven’t found anything like it in New York, and I’m genuinely grateful it exists here.
That’s the Dallas I love—and the version I’m always excited to share.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s no way I could have brought VARA to life without the support, wisdom, and inspiration of so many people. First and foremost, I want to acknowledge my Ayurvedic practitioner, who planted the seed years ago when she encouraged me to remove my extensions and embrace more natural practices. At the time, I couldn’t imagine it—but that moment stayed with me.
I also have deep gratitude for the women in my life who model living in alignment—friends and mentors who walk their talk when it comes to wellness, business, and purpose. And of course, the women who followed my journey and kept asking about the oil I made for myself. If they hadn’t encouraged me to turn it into a product, VARA wouldn’t exist.
I’d also like to recognize the powerful teachings of Ayurveda itself—it gave me the framework to heal and to create. Lastly, a big thank you to my community, both online and offline, who continue to believe in what I’m building.
