We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Henderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, how do you think about risk?
Taking risk in my opinion is a path to self growth. My entire life has been surrounded by taking risk. I don’t look at taking risk as a negative term, instead an opportunity to grow and learn, and the ability to create something beautiful and maybe not yet seen or heard of yet.
Life is full of cracked doors, and the risk is are you willing to step in or sit behind and wonder what’s on the other side?
To me life is full of opportunities , the only way to fail is not trying in the first place.
I took a big risk with starting Velvet Mayhem and especially in a pandemic. This was not my first risk to take on my own, but I also knew I would never know the out come if I didn’t try. So I took the leap, not having a clue of the outcome but I knew it was something I’ve been wanting for a long time, and life is too short to not try.
Now two years later, I’m still growing and celebrating goals I used to only dream of, now those dreams are becoming reality..
I can only praise God for the path he has led me on through strength and prayer, and giving me guidance every step of the way.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I get to take a hat and recreate a style to express what I love.
My inspiration for that style may come from music, fashion, color, or anything that stood out to me as art in my life.
My whole life I’ve turned one style into something that reflects who I am, and I’m able to do this professionally due to the praise and positive reflections from those around me.
This style of my art was easy for me because I’ve always recreated my own style through fashion. By always seeing the beauty this world has to offer through all aspects of life. Creating my own Custom hats opens an outlet for myself to express different styles of art that inspire me everyday. It can also be very exciting because it opens a window for other’s to express their own styles of art and life as well.
Throughout this journey I’ve learned that there are more people in this world who appreciate life’s art as I do, and it’s amazing because art is a big part of who I am and it motivates me to continue to do what I love for in hope that I can inspire others to have the courage to express themselves.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to all the places I go for inspiration, it would be a week of appreciating the beauty this life has to offer. We would go hiking or boat drives to watch sunsets, a day and night amongst Dallas going shopping and eating outside to enjoy the different sense of styles.
Listen to live music with every chance we get, have times to catch up, motivate each other and celebrate life amongst friends and family.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The journey of Velvet Mayhem started with the idea of expressing who I am as an artist through imagination and creativity. Through the love, support, and prayers from my family and friends, Velvet Mayhem continues to thrive and grow to a beautiful creation of its own. I am thankful that God has blessed me with a career that I love and more opportunities to give back what has been shown to me.
