We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Addison-Prescott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking is my ULTIMATE LIFE THRILL. I believe my ability to take risks, sometimes calculated and many many times impulsive, has always been fueled by my curiosity to experience the beauty in this world. I have learned the important skill of taking leaps of faith where knowledge infused with experience invites the greatest wisdom. I feel in the depths of my heart, part of my soul’s mission is to guide the journey to bridge your mind with your heart through movement. This is when we have the greatest opportunity to trust the intuitive messages your body reports as you align with the Divine Energy of your understanding. My career path has been fueled by the art of TRUST- which I now see as a graduation of risk. The sheer thrill to be an intuitive intellectual is to put action behind my dreams with the love in my heart.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I opened Addison Prescott in August 2017. AddisonPrescott yoga | meditation | spiritual guiding is a private healing practice to empower empathic intuitive people and those open to spiritual wellness. What started as just pure private yoga sessions of postures and guided meditations has evolved into a safe haven for those open to accepting and owning their POWER through their stories. I use tarot, Oracle, and numerology readings in conjunction with physical yoga postures, essential oils, and healing crystals to facilitate an open environment for healing exploration.
In my public yoga classes, I am well known and graciously received for my outstanding megawatt smile, positive perspective, quick wit, challenging internal and external strength training yoga classes, and smile-inducing music. I am grateful to be recognized for an innovative approach to guiding my students to dig deep and practice patient perseverance. The deep infusion of my empathic intuition and yogic intelligence allows me to connect with my student’s energy field for a mind, body, and spirit union.
Guiding public and private yoga sessions and workshops aided me in creating the 4 “M” Methodology. Meditation. Music. Movement. Message Methodology encourages students to journey to their inner self and fully embrace life’s challenges. 4 “M” Methodology:
Meditation- introduces breathing and visualization techniques to relax the mind and invigorate the body to prepare for physical movement.
Music- classes are guided in silence with the breath as the rhythm OR with vibration boosting playlists to help the student meet, greet, and accept their Authentic Self
Movement- A Vinyasa sequence, to move in a special way, or a RESTORATIVE yoga sequence is created for the student to align and balance chakras.
Message- Throughout the yoga practice I motivate and guide my students through the asana while offering spiritual guidance. My Students often receive or “download” answers in Savasana to some of their deepest questions.
My work has shown me, “Tarot is the mirror. Yoga is the medicine.” Aligned with the Power of Choice creates a wonderfully powerful web of interconnection back home to Self. What I know today after connecting the dots of my life, is that I have a keen and curious eye about the beauty of people’s stories. I am overjoyed and amazed to have the daily opportunity to aid our community to live their best life through encouraging people to BE their best self. Our Divine truth that All is One. I am most proud of watching others rise and shine their bright light through the practice of Being.
The road to healing is not linear; thus the road to owning and successfully operating a private yoga and spiritual wellness practice as a Black woman in Dallas, has not been a linear experience. What I have learned about being a small business owner is that discipline of having unwavering faith in my natural talents, gifts, and abilities, releases my self-limiting beliefs of fear of success. When I maximize the art of, “Observe more. absorb less,” it allows the energetic financial success to flow in. Money is energy and I am responsible for how I give and receive energy. The sheer energetic inspiration to continue to heal myself and be an open conduit to Spirit so that I may be of maximum service to Spirit and my community is one of my truest inspirations. Trusting the process teaches me to surrender control, take my eyes off the material and focus on strengthening my spiritual life in the present. “Observe more and Absorb less,” connects me with the people and organizations’ that have been an undeniable blessing\ to elevate Addison Prescott to next level of joy and excitement.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My tour of Dallas would begin and end as a tour of my beloved eats and treats if the city. My favorite spots in the city are the Arts District Downtown and Trinity Groves including the gorgeous Margaret Hunt Bridge. I have loving and fond High School memories of being inspired with the art exhibits at the Dallas Museum of Art and the Dallas Aquarium. I have always enjoyed the Downtown Dallas skyline but I can not and will not live without the lovely Velvet Taco on Henderson Avenue, Val’s Cheesecake on Maple Avenue and Greenville Avenue, and the Cake Bar on Trinity Groves. My greatest hideaway to relax and observe nature is The Arbor Hills Nature Perserve in West Plano.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The biggest shoutout goes to my faith and ever evolving trust in God. I am so grateful for the beautiful people that God has brought into my life, especially my Mama, my brothers, and framily-friends that became family. There are countless names to list here BUT thank you for loving me through the lessons, blessings, and life experiences. Thank you to the Dallas and New York City Yoga and Fitness communities for consistently encouraging me with grace and purpose to show up and show out. Especially, big ass Thank you Matt Weston, Faith Hunter, and Georgette Dunn for teaching me that it is more than ok to be Black and be a Black woman yoga teacher in America. Thank you Brené Brown for your teachings and Super Soul Sessions with Oprah. Thank you Carolyn Myss for writing, “Anatomy of the Spirit,” that helped me honor and respect my natural gifts and abilities. Thank you Lalah Delia and Alexandra Elle for writing and developing the most inspiring books, “Vibrate Higher Daily” and “Today I Affirm” to hold me accountable for reclaiming my power and to stand in my Authentic Self with grace, integrity, and confidence.
