We had the good fortune of connecting with Britny Lobas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Britny, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Creating, performing and surrounding myself with music and doing it with people who love the same thing! I’m at my happiest when I sing, whether I’m on stage with my band Corbella, recording in the studio or writing. It’s an amazing gift to be able to create something beautiful that can impact someone else so deeply, and I am so grateful God has blessed me with the gifts I have.
Please tell us more about your art. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My art is definitely my music and my voice. Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, I got my start early on singing in church, musicals and local bands. I grew up in a musical home in which my dad was a full time musician and my mom a writer, so I was lucky to be encouraged and supported in my aspirations. Without ever visiting the city of Austin, I packed up my bags 8 years ago and drove 1,400 miles across the country to pursue my musical dreams. It has not been an easy road and I’ve learned a A LOT of lessons. But, they were lessons that I needed to learn and I have grown stronger from the experience. Recently I have been learning to focus on what’s right in front of me, what I want and who I am, and to just go with it. The world is constantly changing and so are things around you. But if you believe in yourself and you work hard, you are bound to succeed. Also be kind to yourself and once in a while take a moment to look at all you’ve accomplished and how far you’ve come. It’s not always about the destination, what’s important is the journey.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Funny you should ask, because my best friend did just come visit! We started the week off by going to some cool art museums in downtown Austin. We went to some underground caverns, did some hiking around the green belt and lady bird lake. I LOVE to go paddle boarding and being on the water. The weather is pretty hot during the summer here so its great to cool off. Some of my favorite places to eat are Justine’s Brasserie, VIA 313, Black Sheep Lodge and Rositas Al Pastor food truck. The Buzz Mill is always a great spot for drinks and to hang out. Stubbs, Mohawk, and The Continental Club always have great shows.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my parents. I wouldn’t be who I am today without either one of them and their belief in me. I also wouldn’t be where I am today without my fiancé Andrew. He deserves all the shouts! He has been my rock and biggest supporter these last 8 years.
