Meet Britney Tarpley | Hairstylist & Salon Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Britney Tarpley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Britney, how do you define success?
My definition of success would be to achieve. Could be something as small as making my bed, on my worst days. I still achieved a task successfully.
On my best days, its mentally doubling my end goal, pushing my personal limits, to either accomplish or get significantly closer than I was yesterday.
I believe as long as you’re not fooling yourself in the truest form of passion and integrity you hold for yourself, you’re capable of anything and you’re successful.
An object can signify success. For example, money.
Personally, I believe, success is more of a feeling, a movement, a positive change or impact.
An object is always replaceable, the feeling of accomplishment is not.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I specialize in corrective color. I think what sets me aside from others is how in detailed and thorough I am. I don’t sugarcoat, I’m transparent with each guest that sits in my chair. I include them in the game plan we come up with together in order to achieve the result. I go over all pricing so there is no sticker shock at the end of the service. We all like to know where our money is going that we work so hard for when investing in something. I go above and beyond in explaining what steps are necessary and why. Creating something together involves the same amount of involvement from each party so the energy is matched between myself and the guest to ensure the best experience and result.
In my professional opinion, I sometimes feel as if the service provider comes off as “owed” because they are getting paid to create some that is not essential. The beauty industry is made up of millions of techniques to intensify natural beauty. My goal is to always help someone feel their best and equal throughout the process.
My passion and dedication go beyond the average. I am that person who will stay at the salon until midnight to get your hair perfect for my guest. Along with my guest, that same energy is matched for another stylists/artist.
Working for a corporation taught me that no matter how great you are and how much passion you have, at the end of the day, money is their main interest. Making them an astounding amount of money, which 99% of the time means you, as a stylist have dedicated your blood, sweat, tears, lack of sleep into being beyond for that company. Usually resulting in a “pat on the back” or a “that’s great, but you can do better” comment, in making their employees feel as if they’re replaceable or just another number.
Money hungry corporations have hundreds of policies put in place decided by a group of members that usually have a great idea and expect what was voted on a written-up business plan to work in multiple stores, exactly the same across one end of the world, to the next. Yet, if those same board members had to actually make their plan work at a store level, per- xyz policy, they’d fail, miserably. If they somehow were to put it off at 50% and received a “pat on the back” The corporate world would crumble,
Yet I am SO thankful for the corporate world. How contradicting of me right? Just hear me out, without them, small business wouldn’t have learned how to run their business. How to budget, what you want for their brand, budgeting, marketing, most importantly, outstanding customer service. The big wigs can afford a 1 start review/recommendation, while a small business can’t. To sum up my personal answer to “was it is easy?” Absolutely not, but it was and will be worth it.
With that being said,
I’m forever thankful for the work ethic I was taught, the integrity I have to excel at any situation handed and the passion to want to make a difference in this industry.
I am able to create an environment for salon professionals to be offered health benefits, training, to be yourself, to create plus more without anyone feeling unheard, or just a number as a small business.
Bragging on being an owner or the top dog, I have not and will not ever understand because I didn’t build this empire alone, I signed up for all of the behind the scenes extremely meticulous and hard decisions to provide a successful empire for both professionals and guests. It’d be impossible to stand here and take all of the credit. Teamwork makes the dream work.
I’m ecstatic for SAVAGE SHEARS Studios LLC to be able to provide, top of the line services that are endless within the beauty industry, provide solutions for convenience, most of all, I’m excited to see what we all create together.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I really enjoy history, art and wine. The stockyards are a must. Cowtown Winery is in my top 5 favorite wineries in Fort Worth, Texas.
Outside of DFW, anything Austin, Texas is always a great time!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve always been so inspired by Freddie Mercury/ Queen. Freddys vision seemed insane, yet he didn’t care what anyone else thought. he was going to find a way to make that vision come alive. Creating Bohemian Rhapsody was creating art that you actually could feel. The length of the song seems outrageous but while listening to it, you travel through so many different places of sound you almost don’t even realize it’s the same song that started 4 minutes prior. The flow of controlled chaos these musicians created Is extraordinary.
On a more personal note, I wouldn’t be anywhere near where I am today without my clients. The amount of support and belief my people have shown me over the years, is endless. I couldn’t be more thankful for each and every one of them.
As well as every other artist I’ve had the privilege of working alongside. The amount of growth in techniques, scientific knowledge and the business side of this industry I’ve been lucky to absorb, has also made a huge impact on my career with their help and guidance.
