Meet Bria Seed | Singer, Songwriter & Poet

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bria Seed and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bria, what inspires you?
I am inspired mostly by music and nature. The two have always come hand in hand in keeping me grounded. No matter what mood or emotion I am feeling, music just does that thing for me. Whether I am singing my own tunes or just being a listener, I get that burst of chills through my body, truly a feeling like no other. It’s such a powerful energy that makes me want to conquer the world. Anytime I feel too stagnant, I can listen to music to inspire me or get outside and take a walk to gain a new perspective. I’ve always loved nature since I was kid. I’d play in the rain, sit under trees, stare at ants carry food or lay under the stars and watch the moon. It inspires me in a sense that there’s a bigger picture to the parts we all play in this life we’ve been given. I feel a responsibility to myself and my soul’s passion to uphold the natural vibration of the Earth in which keeps our souls yearning for the truths within ourselves. Pursuing music as my career and finding myself through being an artist, I hope to inspire those who are searching for light, as some of my favorite artists like, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott have done for me.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
For years, I’ve dealt with depression & anxiety, like many others have as well. I’ve always been a loner and kept to myself, so I’ve always felt like I never “fit in” growing up. I’ve always struggled with self-image issues at a young age. I dealt with my parents divorcing at a young age and taking on a lot of responsibility at such an early time in my life. Growing up in a single parent household had its challenges. I had to put on my big girl britches and care for my siblings. So, there were a lot of factors that contributed to me losing myself in a sense that along the way I lost sight of what I needed to take care of myself. As my younger self, I don’t think I really knew what depression was or that I could put a label on it, until I got older and was able to understand the real weight of it all. During the lowest of my depression, I had completely let go of my dreams in pursuing music as my first love, which left me really lost. I had my son in 2015 and he gave me my wings to fly and try again. It took the deepest of internal work to repair who I knew myself to be and at that, the best version, which brings me here today as Bria Seed. I am most proud of the self work that’s been done throughout the years to be able to give people the sounds of my artistry. I love to write about what I am going through in real time and I’ve been blessed to be able to put out music that not only touches my soul but anyone who listens. It wasn’t easy finding my sound and rhythm. I had to overcome loads of fear and the thought that perfection comes without failure. Sometimes it takes things not going as planned for you to gain the wisdom on how you can make improvements to get up and try again. I had to grow through what I was going through to be able to tell my story today. I had to learn that authenticity comes with loving yourself wholly. Truly, being yourself is a superpower and when people hear my music, I want them to know that. I hope that my brand will help others want to know and love themselves fully and start that process to self healing. I am just beginning in the industry and with continuous hard work and the belief I have in myself, I am excited for what is to come next. I believe that true happiness comes with true inner peace, and becoming Bria Seed has brought so much clarity into my life. My music will leave behind little gems that people can take for themselves and incorporate into their own methods of healing. The world needs vulnerability right now and I always want to be as vulnerable as I can in my music. This music thing is definitely way bigger than me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love music so wherever I go there has to be some involved! I love Deep Ellum so much! My dad took us a lot growing ups some of my favorite spots in the city are The Free Man Cafe, I absolutely love the cajun food and listening to dope music from bands like The Found and Bree & The Fellas. I also love going to Three Links and vibing with bands, like COLAB, who are amazing! Jazz music is one of my favorite genres, so I love going to the The Balcony Club and hearing Linny Nance and Network play and also open mic with Liz Mikel on Monday nights are always fun! I also love being able to go to Erykah Badu’s Birthday Bash she has at the bomb factory! You have to be there to know the experience! One of a kind!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout all of my family in Ennis, Tx. They are my heart and core in what keeps me going. I love you all so much! Shoutout to my Dad for always being an encouragement and light in my life in being a mentor and teacher in who I am as a person and who I am as a music artist today. I thank and love you! Shoutout to my team, P.O.W.E.R, for keeping me motivated and amazed at how we continue to grow collectively. I couldn’t ask for better people to work with along the journey. I thank and love you! That’s my family to the end! Also, shoutout to Dawun-Jamaal and the whole tribe at the AbNormal Review for supporting me and showing so much love from day one in being new to the music scene. It really does feel like home, and I am forever grateful for the beautiful energy that I’ve received from so many talented creatives in Dallas. Thank you and I love you all!
