We had the good fortune of connecting with Bri Pecina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bri, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I have a toddler, so a work life balance is essential to my every day. Trying to grow a business with a kid and limited childcare is hard- definitely no sugar coating it there. When I first took the leap into my work, I would be deep online with client purchases while my kiddo was glued to the movie Frozen. You got to do what you got to do! But now my household has found a balance. I have a few days out of the week to power through my in person appointments, and the rest of the week, you’ll find me in the design district with a stroller. Launching a new career can be all consuming. I try to stop and remind myself: work is not forever, but being a mother is!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The thing I want to shout from the rooftops is that hiring an interior designer can save you THOUSANDS. When shopping the trade, you have the opportunity to shop well below retail- prices that are not even listed to the public. The thing that sets me a part from most is that I am transparent about what you are paying for. My purpose for being a designer is to bring functionality to design. You can have the eye candy space you’ve always dreamed of without breaking the bank. You can be surprised what just some paint and accessories can do to a room!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my girlfriends and I will drive across the metroplex for a good latte! Some of the best stops for me:

– I love highland park village. The architecture is an afternoon swoon in itself! Spanish tiles and vines all over. The Bird Bakery is there and the Snowbird cup of coffee is delicious. Who wouldn’t want ice cream in their coffee?

– Deep Ellum. Tiki Loco has the best vegan breakfast migas I have ever had. Well, the only vegan migas I have ever had… I am not vegan but they are delicious! Deep Ellum has really done a number on trying to revamp and the weekends can get pretty fun! Lots of local music and art! And fantastic cuban coffee can be found here!

– Knox- Henderson. Cafe Madrid is an all time fav of my husbands and I. We honeymooned in Spain, so it’s nice to sit and reminisce with amazing food! Also, lots of designer store fronts there as well. Brunch then wandering around a 3 story Restoration Hardware? Yes Please!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My grandmother! Dealing with the Trade is a bit of a family business for me. My grandmother is a well respected designer in Dallas and it has truly been a blessing to have her as a mentor and a source of encouragement along my journey starting out.
