Meet Brent Carter | Owner, Starting Strength Dallas

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brent Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brent, what is the most important factor behind your success?
People are the most important part of our success. Both the coaches that train members for me and the members themselves. Every successful business needs customers; this is a given. A large percentage of our customers find us through referrals from existing members. This is very important for us as it indicates that we have done right by our members and our members want to see us be successful.
Without the work and expertise of my amazing staff the above would not be possible. I am blessed to have attracted a team of amazing talent. We all work together to continue to develop the business as well as everyone’s individual skill sets. Continued professional development is integral to our culture.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our mission is to improve the lives of the general public through the highest standard in effective strength training while developing a community of stronger people.
Training is the best use of your time in the gym, and training for strength is the most efficient form of training, for most people. Dozens of gym products on the market offer conditioning programs, but no national gym chain offers a legitimate, strength training product – we do.
Based on the best-selling book in strength training and weight lifting, Starting Strength, our gyms bring these concepts to life with hands on coaching from a profession barbell coach. Most people that fail to make progress in the gym do not do so because of lack of effort; it is typically a lack of direction and feedback. Our coaches provide this direction and feedback through a tried-and-true method that has been used time and again for decades.
“Physical strength is the most important thing in life. This is true whether we want it to be or not.” -Mark Rippetoe, Starting Strength: Basic Barbell Training

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oak Highland Brewery: We just held a members’ get together there this past weekend. Indoor AND outdoor seating. Plenty of space to set up corn hole or giant Jenga.
OAK’D BBQ: Just down the street from our gym. Great atmosphere and stellar BBQ.
Homewood: OMG! THE best meal I have had in my time here in Dallas.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
None of my success would have been possible without the work of Mark Rippetoe and the Aasgaard Co., for creating the body of work that is Starting Strength. I am standing on the shoulders of giants every time I step up on the platform to coach our lifters.
From the business side without the support and help from the Starting Strength Gyms franchise team I would not be where I am today; poised to dominate multiple markets. Thank you for your support and encouragement along the way.
